*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Summer Song Festival
My Entertainment Score: overall 7 out 10 laughs
Episode 88 was a 7 for me. Some parts were hilarious-the guys on surfboards, for example- but I didn’t find most of the games particularly novel or memorable.
Episode 89 was an 8 for me. I wasn’t a fan of the dinner game so much, but I adored the indoor/outdoor sleeping games. They had me rolling.
Episode 90 part 1 was a 7 for me. The premise of the morning mission was funny and luck was on the show’s side for the drawing being ironic.
What Happened:
Opening (start of ep 88- 28:10)
This trip takes place in Yeongdeok. In looking for ways to beat the heat in summer, they will be doing a summer song festival
Making Teams (6:50- 28:10)
To make two teams of 3, they played Top 10 Summer Songs. They were shown a list of the top 10 songs from a specific month and year and they had to guess one specific number on the list to win. This was repeated three times. The members that got an answer correct became a team and got a hand-held fan to cool off.
Lunch Game: Beach Song Sports Festival (28:10- 37:34)
They travel to the beach and reminisce on the way.
Game Explanation (30:40- 32:37, plus little bits in the middle of rounds)
Three games were created based on three famous songs about summer. The individual explanations are given before each is played. I’ll put them all here and list the start time of actual game play for each round below.
First game: Essentially, they are playing fire brigade. The team stands in a line and needs to toss water to the next team mate. The first member has to run to the ocean to get water. The second must balance on a wood block. The third must stay next to a flag. The final teammate runs to a tank and deposits as much water as they manage to catch. The team with the most water at the end wins.
Second game: Lying on the Sea. Played 1 on 1. One member of each team balances on a surfboard. They are armed with a padded paddle to attack the other team. The member to balance the longest wins. The team with 2 out of 3 wins, takes the game.
Third game: Dolphin. The members all start on a starting line. At the whistle, they have to run down the beach, through the surf and swim out to ‘rescue’ a dolphin...aka a beach ball tossed off the back of a jetski. They must then bring the dolphin safely ashore and across the starting line without the other team stealing it.
Game (34:35- 53:43)
34:35 starts the first game.
41:40 starts the second game, including practice because that was just as funny.
50:00 starts the third game.
Lunch (53:43- 1:07:20)
The losing team negotiated a 1 second song quiz against the staff to earn just the soup part of the lunch menu. That was amusing.
Dinner Game (1:07:20 of ep 88- 43:51 of ep 89)
Guests (1:07:20- end of episode 88)
The team announces that there are guest singers. Two members are chosen to escort them in...any guesses on who it is? I’ll put it in the spoilers.
There is a performance and then chatting until the end of the episode.
Dinner Game (start of episode 89- 28:11)
The guys have to play a mental game. There are 3 “parties” that they can choose to go to either a “1st birthday party” or a “wedding party” or a “60th birthday party”. The ‘party’ with the lowest attendance will get dinner. If the split is 2-2-2 or 3-3, no one will get dinner. For 30 minutes, they are allowed to roam freely and try to trick other members into a certain path. At the end of that, they one by one, go down to the “parties” and make their choice.
They throw a wrench in the works when they announce that there will be a preliminary round of voting for where they would like to go and announce the results of the vote. A little more time is given after that for the members to mess with each other’s heads.
Dinner (28:11- 43:51)
They decide amongst themselves on a game for the losers to play in order to get some food. They have to sing a song related to a keyword. This goes...surprisingly. I laughed hard.
Sleeping Game (43:51- 0:55 of ep 90)
Three games are played. The winner of each round gets to sleep inside. The games are jeon flipping, shoulder dance, .
44:53-Jeon flipping. Essentially, in this game, they have to flip jeon (a kind of pancake) in a pan, BUT they must do a forward roll while it's in the air. They are allowed to practice with a jeon substitute which is similar in size and weight.
53:41-shoulder dance. Castanets are placed on each shoulder. In one minute, the members have to move their heads back and forth to click the castanets as many times as they can. Ravi keeps count with a tally machine. THIS IS THE GAME TO WATCH.
1:07:07-back and forth water balloon. For this game, a huge water balloon was attached to a pendulum. The members sat in a circle with spiky hats and blindfolds on. They had to bow forward in the correct rhythm to avoid the balloon as it spun around them. They had a practice round to get the feel of it. They were eliminated (confirmed to sleep outdoors) one by one as they got hit by the water balloon.
Sleeping (start of ep 90- 0:00:55)
Morning Mission (0:00:55- 25:10 of ep 90)
Drawing lots for prizes. The grand prize is to go on a snow crab stamp tour. No food, just travelling around getting pictures (while wearing crab hats). Haha. They were not aiming for the grand prize.
Seyoon acted as the host. The prizes as they were revealed were hilarious.
19:01- The tour is shown.
Preview: Rice Heirs. Wooooow.
