Ranking All 10 Weeekly Title Tracks and Singles

It’s been a while since we’ve done this kind of article, and it’s certainly been a while since I’ve done it for a group that I call my favorite. I'm excited! In regards to what song qualifies, I don’t count OSTs, covers, or project songs. That’s actually true here, I am a little iffy on if ads should count, but Weeekly has one I really like, so it comes in here. This is also super fresh since I just saw them live, so song opinions have shifted a little. Let’s go!

10. Holiday Party

I guess I should note, this list was the hardest one I’ve done probably, there’s no song I don’t like here. Basically, when figuring out 10th place, I thought to myself, “which song am I least amped to have come on in my shuffle” and Holiday Party was where I landed. I think the chorus is not as to my taste as the rest of the song specifically, if I had to choose where it falls short it would be there. *Not on my shuffle I run a 1000+ song, 60+ hour playlist with all the songs I’ve basically ever liked enough to want to randomly hear, so I typically am willing to hit the skip button. I also listen to music a lot, so I cycle through that much faster than you might think.

9. Stranger

This song is beautiful. I don’t really love ballads unless they are really emotionally resonant, but when they’re more energetic I can vibe. I vibe with Stranger. I do think I actually like the English version more, which is usually the opposite for me, but it has a certain linguistic flow that works really well with the tune.

8. Good Day (Special Daileee)

I don’t know how I have this all the way at 8th, feels criminal. This song is tons of fun, fantastic energy, one of the most positive and upbeat songs in a long time. If this doesn’t make you smile and feel good, then I don’t know what will. I’m going to justify this spot by saying that it’s on the simpler side compositionally, and I like a little bit more complexity. But really, I think simple is good too.

7. Zig Zag

I think Zig Zag really does a good job of following up Tag Me and having that energetic and youthful energy. It almost has the vibe of a really good OST actually. I also had a strong first impression from the creative prop choreo in Tag Me that Weeekly was like a new Seventeen, and that also held up here, so good to the choreographers. These very “sequel” comebacks are really tricky, because I want to rate them higher when they're well executed, because it’s really easy to mess a sequel up, and they really nailed it here.

6. Ven Para

You know what scares every long time fan of more cute oriented girl groups, concept changes. Concept changes can really flop and tend to have a lasting effect on a group’s success one way or another. Luckily, Weeekly proved just how diverse they are with Ven Para. While I think this song wasn’t as well received in Korea, most foreign fans really like it from what I’ve seen. I actually think this is my wife’s favorite Weeekly song, although I haven’t double checked since the concert.

5. 7days Tension

To me, this is the energizer bunny of Weeekly’s whole discography despite being an ad. It’s so aggressively upbeat and charming, from the repeated “tension”s to Jaehee’s cute “yoo-hoo” in the first verse that you just have to sing along with. I’m not sure most people would rate this song as highly as me, but I stand by it, I love 7days Tension so much.

4. Tag Me

I accidentally typed “Tage me” at first and German speakers would appreciate how ironic that typo is given the theming of the group we’re talking about. That aside, HOW IS THIS A DEBUT FROM A ROOKIE GROUP WHAT THE HECK? A couple years back I did an article of the best girl group debut songs of all time and I had this at number 2 behind GWSN’s Puzzle Moon. These are still my top two debut songs in that order, and I actually consider them my top two groups of all time currently due to their fantastic overall musical quality, although with Weeekly on top this time. The prop choreo in this song with the desks had all sorts of early Seventeen energy in the best way. And it was already very clear that these girls were so talented. I could spend a long time talking about this but I’ve already been on 3 tangents in this paragraph and it’s looking THICC, so let’s keep going. This song rules.

3. After School

This is definitely the song that comes to most people’s minds when Weeekly is mentioned, and I don’t blame them, it’s a pop masterpiece. After school has this great energy to it, has those fun Gwen Stefani kind of vibes. Jaehee skateboarding at the beginning probably contributes to that energy a little, but that is also an iconic moment. This song is undeniable and its popularity really speaks for itself. That said, I am also happy they continued to try new things. I think all the girls in Weeekly have the ability to be very flexible and it’s hard to not keep doing the same thing hoping to maintain popularity, but I think that’s generally pretty uninteresting, and I like to be kept interested.

2. Lights On

Lights On is so good, and has such good energy that it might be able to keep my lights on without adding to my electric bill. The chorus is perfect, it’s so poppy, it’s got great little vocal moments, and the crazy thing is, the instrumental is great too, an awesome digital drum beat that keeps everything driving forward so well. After a detour of trying a bunch of different musical ideas, this felt like a return to the early Weeekly energy but with way more experience and skill and man do they shine this way, like a light that’s on even! Maybe all these really heavy handed jokes weren’t such a bright idea, certainly not as bright as turning a light on when it’s dark… I wonder if other writers feel as embarrassed by being this ridiculous as I do.

1. Vroom Vroom

The vibes on this song are absolutely immaculate, there’s a great groove to slide into and just chill with the music. Despite that comfortable side to it, the chorus still manages to pop just right and keep your head bobbing to it throughout. I could honestly probably listen to this for hours while working on a project and be enjoying it just as much at the end as I would at the start, it’s just got that energy. I also love some of the really cool vocal work in here, starting from Zoa’s whispered opening all the way through. Also, how many other songs in kpop have this kind of sound? It’s pretty unique even among b-sides, and yes, there may be similar things, but I can’t think of any, so that’s a pretty good sign. Also, it doesn’t have any bearing on this being in first, but the ColoRise b-sides are nuts, Backwards and Sweet Dream are both top 5 songs for me across Weeekly’s whole discography, but that would be a different article.

So, that’s my ranking of Weeekly titles and singles. How does it compare to yours? Let me know in the comments, or better join our discord server and let me know there. I want to get the Discord off the ground. We’re trying to build up a really healthy and positive community for fans of any and all groups. And if you want a group of gaming friends that have similar interests to you, a lot of us in there love to play games too. Thanks for reading, have a great day, and when things get dark, just remember, it’s never too late to turn the Lights On, and if you feel like you can’t do that on your own, somebody who loves you will help you if you ask.
