*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
**Special Note: Due to a scandal, Kim Seonho decided to leave the 2 Days, 1 Night cast. The show edited him down to a minimum in episodes they had already recorded...aka this trip beginning in episode 96 and the next trip...and he will no longer be a part of the show going forward. I don’t know if they plan to replace him. (I hope they do because 6 is fairly ideal for the team splits this show uses). I will keep you up to date as I learn more.**
This Trip’s Theme: Autumn Man trip
My Entertainment Score: overall 8 out 10 laughs
Episode 95 was a 9 for me. Fair warning, this episode wasn’t about games. It was almost entirely a photoshoot, but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Episode 96 part 1 was an 8 for me. I was both a little sad and a little impressed by how well they were able to edit out Seonho. Still, the games were great.
What Happened:
Opening (start of ep. 95- 12:20)
We start with a montage showing Gimje in North Jeolla Province, the location of this week’s trip. Then the members enter one by one, showing off their idea of an Autumn Man’s fashion. I give this fashion show a 10 out of 10 for entertainment.
The theme of the show is revealed and explained. The members will be tested in 4 categories and the ultimate Man of Autumn will be awarded his title in the morning. Along with the title, the winner will get a Wish Card. Wish card’s are the most powerful item in 2 Days, 1 Night and the members hoard them for months at a time until there is a particularly bad challenge or mission. On the other hand, the last place member will have to do a penalty by himself.
They move on to their first contest location.
First Test: Individuality (15:15- end of episode 95)
The game is introduced and then a LOT of time is spent introducing the horses and the members to one another, which is way funnier than it should be. This begins at 19:18.
34:10- For this test, they invited a special guest: Cho Sunhee, who is a well-known photographer. She will do a photoshoot with each member and their horse. Afterward, she will judge the photos and give them a score from 0 to 5, with 5 being the best. The top 3 scorers will get lunch.
38:00- Photoshoot! Some of these photos are absolutely spectacular! She’s an amazing photographer and she got the best out of the members. Personally, I was a huge fan of Ravi (shocker, I know), Junghoon, and Seyoon’s photos. Who were your favorites?
51:42- Photo review and scoring.
Lunch (1:11:03- end of episode 95)
Second Test: Sensibility (start of episode 96- 5:56)
Travel and Explanation (start of episode 96- 3:09)
Because autumn is a time of reflection and sentimentality, the men will be tested on that. The members will each take a turn writing a letter--a video letter...to a person the other members choose...and including words that the other members choose. It is a 30 second video letter and they only get one chance.
Video Letters (3:09- 5:56)
Third Test: Manliness (5:56- )
This is also the dinner game. There are 3 ‘cool men’ games. The winner of each game will have dinner and will earn 5 points toward their Man of Autumn contest. Those that don’t win, will get zero points.
Round 1: Shaking Your Hair (10:09- 20:14)
The members dunk their head in a bowl of water and then flick their head back to splash water on a tall paper behind them. The member that gets water the farthest up the paper wins. Each member gets 2 tries.
Round 2: Put out Candles with a Trench Coat (20:14- 30:17)
The name is fairly self explanatory. A row of 100 candles is set up and lit. Each member will have one chance to swing a trench coat over their head and slap it down in front of them to create a wind, hopefully, strong enough to put out the candles. The member who puts out the most candles wins.
Round 3: Open The Bottles (30:17- 37:41)
Using a spoon, instead of a bottle opener, the members have to open as many soju bottles as they can in 30 seconds. The member that opens the most wins.
Dinner (37:41- 47:07)
Fourth Test: Friendship (47:07- 55:26)
There is a vote by the members before bed to determine this. It was explained that it would happen at the beginning of the third test timestamp. Each vote is worth 4 points, so the entire ranking could easily be overturned by this.
There was no sleeping indoor/outdoor game this week.
Final Results aka Official Man of Autumn Award Ceremony (55:26- 1:04:30)
This is where the members learn how the voting went.
Preview: Suncheon Mudflats Trip. This can only be good.
