*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 5 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Jeju Island Relaxation trip
My Entertainment Score: overall 8 out 10 laughs
Episode 98 pt 2 was an 8 for me. Jongmin was absolutely adorable! I laughed, I skweee-ed, I learned a few things.
Episode 99 was a 9 for me.
Episode 100 was an 8 for me. Poor seasick men. I felt bad for them even as I giggled.
Episode 101 pt 1 was a 7 for me. There wasn’t much to this, just the reward and penalty, but both were amusing.
What Happened:
Opening/ Planning Session (start of ep 77- 12:20)
They gather and the theme of the trip is explained. There’s a flashback to the planning session for the trip which included the members individually picking the things they wanted to do on Jeju Island in five categories: lunch, dinner, desserts, activities, and sightseeing. The members had to pick randomly to see who got what portion.
The members will have to lead their section completely on their own. After each course, the other members can vote from 1 to 5 on how good that section was. At the end of the day, the two members with the highest scores will get a prize: a luxury yacht tour of the island in the morning as well as a special breakfast.
Jongmin’s Sightseeing Tour (43:57- end of ep 98)
Jongmin tells a legend of the island on the bus to explain where he’s taking them and why. They visit the Jeju Stone Park. I know that doesn’t sound super exciting, but it looked like a ton of fun...though, maybe more so in the warmer months.
1:16:00 starts the evaluations for his tour.
Seyoon’s Lunch Tour (start of ep 99- 39:39)
Seyoon does a quiz about their menu. He has chosen horse mackerel soup, which is a dish he and the staff of “Tasty Guys” highly recommend from Jeju Island.
Suddenly, at the restaurant, the PD announces that there is a ‘method’ to get a ‘generous spread’ of food. Seyoon is obviously concerned that some people won’t eat and that he will, therefore, get a bad score.
They have to play against the PD to get a large amount of food. They have to guess if she is holding an odd or even number of stones. Even if everyone fails, they will still get one portion of food. For every correct member, they get an additional portion. If everyone succeeds, they will get a special extra meat dish.
Game (9:59- 29:40)
Lunch (29:40- 39:39)
Dindin’s Dessert Tour (39:39- 1:06:52)
This whole segment was funny. He hyped up his location and then made them take a million pictures before ordering what he wanted them to try rather than what they requested.
They had to play a game here to determine how many desserts they would be allowed to eat. They each have to choose a card to flip. An ‘X’ is a failure and they will have to return a dessert. An ‘O’ is a success and they will not have to return a dessert. If they all failed, there would still be 3 desserts available.
Game (51:19- 52:17)
Dessert (52:17- 1:06:52)
The members REALLY wanted coffee to go with their dessert, so the PD suggests that they play ‘Omegitteok’ as it was originally created for Jeju Island on their all around Korea episode. The winner, without sharing, will get to have an Iced Americano. They magnanimously give Jongmin 3 lives because he is so notoriously bad at the game. This begins at 56:21. I highly recommend watching this section too.
Production Crew’s Sunset Tour (1:06:52- end of ep. 99)
On the way to the beach, the guys reminisce about various things.
Upon arrival, the PD tells them they should ride electric bikes along the coast road to a distant location called “Suwolbong”. Suwolbong is a gazebo with an incredible view of the sunset over the ocean.
Ravi’s Dinner Tour (start of ep. 100- 50:53)
Ravi’s Dinner is Black Pork...and he managed to get the chefs to come to the base camp for them. The only thing in their way....a wetsuit!
Game (6:45- 27:47)
In a relay, taking only 4 minutes, all the members must don a wetsuit. Once dressed, a member is allowed to help the next members to get on their wetsuits. They will get 5 full portions if they succeed on their first try and lose one portion for each failure, up to 4. That means, even if they fail completely, they will still all get to share one portion.
I giggled start to finish on this one.
Dinner (27:47- 50:35)
Ravi prepared a random draw for the members to see who would get which of the 13 courses.
Junghoon’s Activity Tour (50:35- end of episode 100)
SILVER HAIRTAIL FISHING??!!!!
Morning Mission (start of episode 101- 30:12)
The results of the member votes are in! The two members that had the best tours will get to take a luxury yacht to have a special buffet brunch (not totally sure this was the best idea after Junghoon’s Activity Tour, but the night’s rest will have helped them with their seasickness...right?)
The other three members will face a penalty for failing to run a good tour. They will have to hike up Mount Halla, which is considered the heart of Jeju Island.
Hiking Team (11:14- 18:40) and (25:40- 30:12)
Luxury Team (18:40- 25:40)
Preview: The Odd Man Out Special Trip. As there are currently only 5 members, the trip and games will focus on including the member that does not make it into one of the paired teams.
