2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 173 pt 2 - 17 A Lucky Day trip Review
*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip is designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game, a morning mission, and a getting off work game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent, etc. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: A Lucky Day trip
My Entertainment Score: 9 overall out 10 laughs
This trip was stripped down as far as games and format, but it didn’t lack in one way for either humor or drama.
What Happened:
Opening (19:48 of ep 173- 25:03)
Gangwon Province, Samcheok
Breakfast Game (25:03- 52:01 of episode 173)
6 statues in the canola field are holding meal tickets. The members race around finding the meal tickets. Whatever tickets they hold will be given to them for breakfast.
After finding the tickets, the members were SHOCKED by the amazing quality of the meals listed. Worse still, each ticket said “Do Not Open Until Told”. The trepidation was real as they guessed that they would have to catch the ingredients or something similar.
Arriving at the breakfast location, they learned that each table seated 3 people and that the dishes on that table would be shared by everyone. At the time, they did not realize that this would form the teams for the day. The teams are Junghoon, Jongmin, and Inwoo vs Seyoon, Dindin and Seonho.
Breakfast - 35:50.
Twist - 43:26. The meal tickets have scratch off portions with a punishment listed on each! The members have to pay for their wonderful breakfasts using the punishments.
**Note: Anyone without a punishment card at the end of the day will get a breakfast without any games and then be able to comfortably go home.**
One member is thrown into the ocean as an example of the Diving punishment. Haha. 3 guesses on who it was…I’ll reveal it in the spoilers.
Old Maid Games (52:01 of episode 173- 37:30 of ep 174)
**I’m calling these the old maid games because the losing team of each game must randomly choose one of the punishment cards to take from the winning team. It’s like reverse old maid.**
Game 1 - 52:01. Island Race. The teams have to pick between 2 courses to go around/up an island. One is longer but easier and one is shorter but has many steps. The first team to reach the peak on the opposite side of the island wins. Each course has a mission along the way that must be completed to continue. I’ll put the time stamp for the first time a game is introduced here along with what the game is, but know that the show switches back and forth between the attempts of both teams.
55:20- Butt Balloon Burst. One member must burst 30 balloons by sitting on them within 30 seconds. The other two members place the balloons.
56:45- Spin an item while walking on a narrow bridge. The team must make it to a flag. Each person gets one chance to spin and walk. The next member begins where the last ended (relay style).
1:01:36- Simultaneous Coin Flip. All three members flip a coin and all three must match in order to pass.
1:05:30- Ankle Spinner with Water Cup Helmet. One member of a team at a time wears an ankle skip ball and completes 30 skips. He must wear a helmet with a cup full of water on his head during the skipping and then tip whatever contents remain into a cup with a goal line. The first team to fill the goal line cup sufficiently wins the island race.
Game 2 - 11:14:12. Extreme Charades. Both teams play this game at the same time and the fastest to answer 5 questions in a set and then have a member correctly answer a quiz question (given at the bottom of a big enclosed slide) wins. Two members of each team are guessers and one is the actor. The actors have to ride a tightrope bike across a gap to choose the question set and then back again to give the questions. If they fail in a set, they must do the bike course again.
Game 3 - 4:15 of episode 174. Hand Fencing. This was played 1 v 1. Each member has circles drawn on both cheeks. Then they wear a glove covered in black ink (the other hand must stay in his back pocket) and attempt to fill in the circles on the opponent’s cheeks. Each time a team won, they would give one of the punishment cards they held to the losing team. In order of play, the pairs were Jongmin v. Dindin, Seyoon v Inwoo, and Junghoon v Seonho.
Joker Card TWIST - 21:16. The joker card allows one member of a team to avoid all the punishments that the team has. To decide who is safe, 21 cards are shuffled. Only one has a joker on it. The team takes turns drawing off the top of the deck and the member that finds the joker is safe!
Dinner Game- Pipe Dream Quiz (37:30 of episode 174- 1:19:12)
The members are first asked to rank the dishes for dinner according to what they least want to eat. Each number, when flipped over, had a subject and a difficulty level for the quiz. Pass the quiz, get the food. Nice and simple.
The staff was kind enough to give 3 call-a-friend chances. The members could decide when to use each and who to call. The quizzes were given both as team quizzes (where each member needed to give one correct answer) and single quizzes (where one person was able to answer).
Dinner - 1:12:23.
Punishments (1:19:12 of episode 174- 45:40 of episode 175)
The remaining members are given the choice to carry out the punishments as a team OR to play a hit-or-miss game to divide them! Of course, the members immediately choose to test their luck at having no punishments. The 5 punishment cards are mixed in with 35 blank cards to form a deck. The members take turns flipping over a card. When a penalty card is drawn, that member will take the penalty. **This was unnecessarily thrilling!**
At the beginning of episode 175, the unlucky sundown member got to spin a roulette to determine where he would watch the sun descend.
Sleeping - 6:10.
Fishing - 11:00.
Sunrise - 24:28. You wouldn’t think this would be funny…but it was.
Diving - 26:45.
Sunset - 30:00 and 38:00. In the second timestamp, the sunset member gets a quiz to see if he can have a sumptuous dinner before his punishment is finished.
Breakfast - 31:17.
Preview: In honor of Family Month (May), the members will have a trip with the people that are as close as family to them…THEIR MANAGERS!
