Running Man Episode 663 Review
Guests: None
My Entertainment Score: 5 out of 10 laughs
After the jump to eat candies game, this episode didn’t have a ton that worked for me. I have very little interest in gambling and the show has covered it several times now. Adding the talismans was definitely helpful though. But…most of those 5 stars are the jump to eat candies game. I laughed so hard.
What Happened:
Theme: Joseon Era Gamblers
Opening (start of episode- 3:55)
Each member was assigned a character type and came in costume…which was fantastic.
Race Explanation (3:55- 16:15)
Each member is given 20 candies as ‘money’. If anyone eats a candy, it’s gone, as if it was a coin dropped out of a pocket.
Street Magician - 4:40. A street magician (slicker?) arrives and offers to double any bet that the members win against him.
Note: The magician is a youtuber called Showgang. He’s very very good.
Rules - 15:30. The member at the end of the day with the most candy wins. Everyone else will face punishment.
Candies can be earned in games. Stealing candy is allowed. Candies can be spent at a ‘talisman’ shop to get…essentially gambling super powers. Each talisman costs 20 candies and can be used in the final game. There are only 5 talismans available.
If anyone runs out of candy, they can borrow from the staff. HOWEVER, the terms are atrocious. Interest is 50% and the loan must be repaid in 30 minutes or the member ‘becomes a slave’.
First Mission: Jump To Eat Candies (16:15- 37:35)
The members roleplay and move to the next location until 22:07.
**WATCH THIS GAME IF YOU WATCH NOTHING ELSE**
Mats are set up and made slick and then an easy and a hard path are set up with smaller mat squares. The harder path has a larger gap between squares. The members hold a bowl of water with wrapped candies in it and jump from square to square. Each jump completed on the hard path earns 5 candies. Each jump completed on the easy path earns 1 candy. Each fall, on either path, loses 3 candies. Any candies left in the bowl at the end of the path are automatically earned.
**SERIOUSLY THOUGH…WATCH THIS ONE**
Second Mission: Lunch (37:35- 54:55)
The ingredients for lunch needed to be paid for with candies or by winning a bet. Only two members could go to the store. Money was collected from everyone to pay for lunch before they learned about the bet.
Outside, there is a random game that can be played as a double or nothing in order to earn more candy. In this case, its raw vs hard-boiled eggs.
Final Mission: Top or Bottom Survey (54:55- end of episode)
For any members that may or may not have become ‘slaves’ before this round, other members were able to bid to have them. The ‘owners’ can push the punishment of making straw shoes onto their servant AND will get half of anything that the servant earns in the final game.
Twenty cards from 1 to 20 are placed face down in the center of the table. Four members play at a time. Each player takes 2 cards randomly and announces whether they are high (11-20) or low (1-10). Then they choose a card to put forward. Highest card on the table wins. In the case of 1, it can beat 20 but only 20. When new cards are dealt, there may be duplicate numbers. In that case, the ones with stars in the corner win. The game is played until only one player remains, with a player on the sideline replacing the ones that get out. Players bet each round if they believe they can win.
Talismans are powers that allow them to do things like see everyone else’s cards
1:14:00 - The game changes slightly at the halfway point. Instead of announcing high-high or low-high, The members reveal the card that they are not playing.
The prize for the day is a yellow corvina set. Everyone else must make straw shoes.
Preview: The second trip in the series of trips planned by the members is here. Jaesuk leads the members on an educational trip complete with quizzes.
!!!Spoilers!!!
*Note: For the most part, the show itself ignored the amount of candy that the members had, so spoilers are hard to cover.*
