2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 190 pt 2 - 191 The Method to Eat and Sleep Well trip Review

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip is designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game, a morning mission, and a getting off work game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent, etc. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: The Method to Eat and Sleep Well trip

My Entertainment Score: overall 9 out 10 laughs

This trip is proof that sometimes simplicity is the best policy. I think almost every game in here is something that you could find nearby or rig up yourself and yet it is fun to watch the whole way through!

What Happened:

Opening (11:00 of ep 190- 17:50)

The members gather at a rest stop. Oh, good gracious…(13:30) the members give Jongmin advice about how to behave in LA when he goes…I’m SOOOOO confused about the image of Americans in Los Angeles. HAHAHAHAHA. Just smile and keep walking, Jongmin. Don’t worry about bobbing your head like a pigeon or making your eyes wide. Just what? Hahahahahah.

This trip, the team is traveling to Jeonju in the North Jeolla Province. The members are promised a lavish full course dinner and hotel stay…as long as they complete 3 missions. For each failed mission, 2 people will be omitted from the benefits.

First Mission: King Of Rest Stops (17:50- 37:34)

There will be two more rest stops before the members reach the destination. If they are able to beat even one game at one of the rest stops, it will be a success. The first game is a ball pit game and they must break the record at the stop. The second stop has a baseball game. They must hit one home run in order to succeed at that stop. They are given $10 to spend on the games. The games cost $1 or $2 per try.

Ball Pit Game - 21:40.

Baseball - 29:45.

Second Mission: Joseon Dynasty Kings (45:00- 1:02:45)

The members arrive at Gyeonggijeon, a site that dates back to the Joseon era. The members must find and place the names of the Joseon Dynasty in order from 1 to 26! After they begin, they realize that there are even fake names hidden in the area.

Bonus Round - 57:50. Jongmin and Seonho play individually against each other with a sweet treat on the line.

Third Mission: Trading Water and Water (1:02:45- 1:17:50)

The members arrive at Deokjin Park, which is famous for its lotus fields with a charming library in the center. The members are shown an array of items that can ‘beat the heat’ of summer, from fans to pool floats to watermelon. Without knowing the game, they choose the watermelon.

The members must take their chosen item to the library and trade it with a regular citizen for ANY item that is smaller in size than the previous item...in a relay. In total, there should be 6 trades. They have a time limit of 20 minutes to finish the relay.

Fight for Dinner Luxury Mission: Eosahwa Dried Persimmon Eating (1:17:50 of episode 190- 10:34  of episode 191)

Eosahwa is a type of hat…you’ve seen these. It’s the black one with the squared hump in the back. You’ve seen this game before too…dried persimmon is attached to a bouncy string on the hat. The members that are fastest to eat the persimmon without touching it get to have the luxurious dinner and sleeping arrangement.

Dinner - 2:14 of episode 191.

Luck Game - 6:15. One more member can join the winners if they choose the kimbap with salt in it.

Fight for Sleeping Luxury Mission: One Bounce King of Gomoku (10:34 of episode 191- 1:11:35)

Members take turns bouncing ping pong balls into a large egg carton base. The members who complete a row of 5 (of one color) get to sleep indoors. The rest will need to sleep outdoors.

King Game Twist - 14:32. Since no country can have 2 kings, a second game is played to determine the king and servant(s). This time, the members play on a go board. Each takes turns randomly drawing a stone with a number between 0 and 9 on it. Stones can be black or white. The member to put down the final stone in a row of three (of the same color) that adds up to exactly 10 becomes king.

Bonus Indoor Sleeping Game - 21:55. The remaining members square off in the king twist game to find another vassal for the king who will be allowed to sleep indoors.

Late Night Snack - 34:20. Everyone heads to a night market. The king is responsible for ensuring the kingdom’s well-being, so the king will pay for the snacks. To determine how much he should spend to fulfill his duties, they use the water bottle hat game. The starting budget is $10. Each time a member successfully pulls out a pin without soaking the king, the amount doubles. Then everyone heads into the market. (54:06 is when the table is set and everyone eats.)

Bedtime - 55:23. The king-ness invites revolt at this point. Haha.

Morning Mission (1:11:35- end of episode 191)

Each member got to choose between 3 different breakfast menus. The king chose first and then the vassals, etc. Each breakfast menu only had two reservation slots, so only 2 members could choose each one. After making the choices, the members learned that they would be allowed to go home immediately after breakfast…which they had to make themselves…and for which they would have to fetch the freshest ingredients. Cooking would take place at the basecamp.

One team would stay in Jeonju, using local ingredients for their dish. (1:19:05)

One team would go to Imsil for cheese. (1:16:43 and 1:22:54 and 1:28:18)

One team would go to Jeongeup for beef. (1:22:35 and 1:30:54)

The teams that travel for ingredients had to play a game where they tasted either 3 cheeses or 3 beefs from different locations and needed to identify the local ingredient. When they found the local ingredient, they earned the ingredient and could return to basecamp to cook. If they guessed incorrectly, they would have to wait 10 minutes to try again.

Preview: Sweet Holiday Special aka A Walking Holiday Adventure. I don’t know where they are walking to or from, but oh boy do they look tired and desperate in the preview.

Junghoon and Inwoo - go to Jeongeup for ingredients…then cook for 3 hours before breakfast and going home.
