My Entertainment Score: 5 out of 10 laughs
Episode 572 was a 3 for me. I had the STRONGEST deja vu watching this episode. They did this concept once before...baseball? Yes...episode 534. In any case, it didn’t really do much for me personally.
Episode 573 was a 5 for me. Only one of the two games had me laughing and the negotiations aren’t really my style of entertainment.
Episode 574 pt. 1 was a 7 for me. This was the best section of this set for me. I enjoyed the game that was played and was relieved by the lack of negotiations.
What Happened:
Opening/ Guest Introductions (start of episode- 39:10)
They do this as a sports draft conference, where everyone enters as they are announced and they walk down a red carpet before taking their seats at a conference table.
14:48- They interview the players and give them each some air time.
Jongkook and Jaesuk are to be the team leaders for this episode. That was determined by the games in the last episode and their “money” carried over from there as well.
Draft (39:10- 1:04:44)
All the members (except Jongkook and Jaesuk) take turns in groups of three hitting one ‘spike’ at a target, aiming for accuracy as well as speed. The coaches will write down their proposed salaries for each member based on that one hit and the members can choose which coach they will work for depending on the proposed salaries. Each coach can only have 6 members.
Jaesuk has $1300 to spend while Jongkook has $990. Salaries will be renegotiated after each game.
Race Explanation (1:04:44- 1:08:14)
After each game, the coaches and players will have a renegotiation time on the salaries. Any money the coaches manage not to spend, they get to keep and the coach with the most saved money at the end of the day will win a prize, while the other coach will face the penalty. The top 3 players with the most money will also get a prize. The two players with the lowest accumulated salary, will lose and get the punishment. They get to choose 2 more people to join them in the penalty.
As a twist, they did first string and second string line-ups on each team for every round. The coaches can join either string. From an overall perspective, winning with the first string team will earn more for the coach to give out in salaries AND only the first string players can renegotiate their salaries each round. Second string players will automatically get the minimum salary.
The coaches appoint a captain for each round who gets a $10 bonus.
First Match: Foot Volleyball (1:08:14 of episode 572- 28:45 of episode 573)
A twist rule for this game: a libero is chosen by the coaches. That player can use their hands.
1st String Special Rule: No using formal language. This game went through the end of episode 572. It ends at 13:39 of episode 573.
2nd String Special Rule: Keep smiling, no getting mad.
First Negotiation Time (28:45- 43:53)
Lunch (43:53- 46:55)
The team leaders ‘pay’ for the lunch using their coach savings.
Second Match: Styrofoam Bridge to Nowhere (46:55- 1:15:14)
That’s my name for this one, not the show’s. This game has been done before and is always amusing at some level. At the same time, each team will send one person to go up to a styrofoam platform hanging out over a foam pit. They must inch their way out as far as possible and stick a sticker before the platform breaks and falls. They measure the distance of the stickers to determine the winner. In this episode, they added medals with numbers, starting at 10 and ending at 40 in increments of 5, hanging above the platform. Grabbing one of those medals will add that amount to their length. Only one medal is allowed per member.
Second Negotiation Time (1:15:14- end of ep. 573)
Final Game:Water Mat Volleyball (start of ep. 574- 13:09)
In a huge pool with huge mats floating in it, the teams play volleyball with a huge bouncy ball. They are allowed to jump off the mats whenever they want or need to in order to make a hit, but they cannot stay in the water to wait for a hit.
The first round is played by the coaches with the first string members and the second round is played by the second string members. This was pretty funny.
Final Results (13:09- 23:44)
The coaches can distribute the last round of earnings as they see fit without any negotiations.
The prize for the day is a Hanwoo beef set. The penalty is a whip cream bomb. Three of the 5 people (losing coach, two lowest players, and two players chosen by the lowest 2) will get the whip cream bomb.
