Variety Review- 2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 66

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: Taste of Nature, Training in the Wild

My Entertainment Score: 7 out 10 laughs

What Happened:

Wilderness Training (start of episode- 17:50)

Barbeque Party (start of episode- 16:00)

The Wild Camping Expert teaches the members how to use things around the area to make a spit for barbecuing the meat they have and the members eat dinner.

The only meat they had was pork belly, so Seyoon made a new pact to lose weight by a certain date in order to break his fast on that meat according to his other promise. Haha...we’ll have to see if he can keep this promise.

Fixing Up Camp (16:00- 17:50)

The expert gives a few suggestions to make the camp more comfortable before he heads out. The members immediately do as he suggested after he left.

Civilization (17:50- 22:14)

Junghoon’s Talk Show (17:50- 20:46)

Junghoon prepared hot chocolate and called out a staff member to chat about the concerns she has. He proceeded to give her a lot of advice which the editors mostly skipped.

Sleeping Indoors/Outdoors Game Announcement (20:46-22:14)

Junghoon learns that he may still be sent to the Wilderness Training Camp to sleep with the rest of the members on the deserted island. He must play a game called “My Last Match”. If he can light a match in one try, and have it stay lit for 3 seconds, he is not only safe, but he can pick one of the members to join him back in civilization for the night. If he fails, however, he’s going to be joining the deserted island party.

Wilderness Camp (22:14- 33:51)

Game Announcement and Results (22:14- 33:51)

The members are told about the mission and then wait for Junghoon to arrive and tell them the results directly. There is absolutely no way not to spoil this for you guys. If I only talk about the wilderness camp, you’ll know he failed and vice versa, so I’m just going to tell you here. Sorry. He succeeded (the first in the show’s 14 year history to do so, I believe) and got to save one member. He let them each make an appeal about why they should be saved. I’ll put his choice in the spoilers section...I do try guys.

Members Appeal for Food (33:51- 38:12)

The staff had set up a game for the members to individually get sleeping bags. The PD explains that game and adds that if all the members succeed, they will give the members some of the field rations that the staff had brought for themselves.

The game for the members is a kind of strong heart test. There’s an abandoned building on the island that the members found creepy even in daylight. They set up the rooms with some scares, like a big remote control spider toy, and the members are sent up one at a time to find a specific item.

Haunted House Game (38:12- 56:28)

The order for the members is Seonho, Seyoon, Jongmin, and lastly Dindin.  I enjoyed this so much. Most of these guys are easily scared and it's a perverse pleasure to watch them scream, sometimes because of cameras just sitting there.

Civilization (56:28- 59:42)

Junghoon’s Second Hot Chocolate Clinic (56:28- 59:42)

Junghoon chats with his saved member about the concerns he has and they discuss how to handle them. This was touching and the advice was solid.

Wilderness Camp (59:42- 1:16:52)

Bedtime (59:42- 1:04:25)

The members get ready and bunk down for the night. The camp is on a slight incline so there was a little drama with that and a heavy wind shook the tent, but the members were able to settle in and sleep.

Morning Mission Announcement (1:04:25- 1:10:40)

The members have no morning mission, but they will have to canoe back to civilization. (so mean!) The members get ready for that by cleaning up everything they did on the island before they go.

Return to Civilization (1:10:40- 1:16:52)

An expert comes to teach them how to canoe and he takes a lead boat out to show them the way back from the deserted island. It was about an hour long rowing trip. Good work guys! That must have been exhausting.

Civilization (1:16:52- end of the show)

The members gather back up and chat about the deserted island.

Preview- One Year Anniversary Special-Feel the Rhythm of Korea. I don’t think I had started doing these when they did the first trip related to this, so I’ll briefly explain. I can’t remember which episode exactly had the announcement and details. There was a music video, I believe it was created for the national tourism committee but don’t quote me on that, and it went viral on the internet about Korea and all its cultural elements and places. The national tourism committee asked 2 days 1 night to participate in making a video and highlighting a place. Episodes 53-55 were the trip to pick a location. Next week they will be working on learning the dance and doing an audition related to that.

!!!Spoilers!!!

Junghoon saves Ravi, good man. I knew I liked him!

All the members passed the strong heart mission and they were able to eat field rations.
