*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Taste of Nature, Training in the Wild
***I have to apologize again for the lateness of my article. It’s Spring Break for my kiddos and parenting is the ultimate time-suck. I started this article on Monday and blinked and it's Friday already with Daylight Savings threatening to make life difficult over the weekend. SAVE ME!***
My Entertainment Score: 7 out 10 laughs
This week was a subtle kind of humor with the exceptions of the games. Watching the members struggle with the wilderness and come to terms with their situation was amusing. This season’s members are adorable when put in situations where they have to do things for themselves.
What Happened:
2nd Member Sent to Wilderness Training (start of episode- 14:26)
Member Heads Out (start of episode- 3:00)
The members said goodbye and one left on the boat ride to join Ravi...You know who this was if you read last week’s article, I believe, but I’ll try to keep it all spoiler free in the main article.
Wilderness Trainee Time (3:00- 14:26)
The two Wilderness Trainees meet up. Ravi fills in his new trainee on all the work he did while alone. They decide they want to make a fire as quickly as possible so that they can cook the meat Ravi found and keep it all to themselves. They try all kinds of things, with varying levels of failure as you might expect.
Free Members (14:26- )
Relaxation Time (14:26- 15:55)
The members were allowed to hang out for a while inside. Some napped, some played on their phones. They chatted and enjoyed the comfort before the next game.
Game Explanation and Team Picking (15:55- 23:04)
The game will be played 2 v 2 and the losing 2 will BOTH have to go to the wilderness training camp. The pairs will need to do couple jump roping, both jumping over the same rope while face to face. One member will turn the rope. The other will hold a bowl over water over their heads while they jump (teehee). After completing 10 consecutive jumps, the team with the most water left in the bowl will be safe. The bowl is not refilled after a failure to complete 10 jumps, so it is advantageous not to fail.
The team picking, all by itself, was a spectacle worthy of laughing. The members appealed their charms and then on the count of three, everyone had to point to the member they wanted to team up with. If members pointed to each other, they would be a team. Care to take a guess on how many times they had to count and point? It was more than two… but in the end Seonho and Seyoon made a team. Junghoon and Jongmin became a team as the remainders even though they didn’t pick each other.
Couples Jump Rope (23:05- 31:46)
As you can imagine, none of the members came away from this game dry. It was funny watching their reaction to the inevitable soaking though and I found myself rooting for them.
Seeing Off the Losers (31:46- 34:21)
The group headed back to the docks to send two more members off to the wilderness camp. They turned this into a little skit where the losers were newlyweds heading off to their honeymoon with the parents waving goodbye. I love these nerds.
Wilderness Camp (34:21-43:45)
Ravinception Begins: The newest members are giving a briefing on the state of the island and their need for fire. The new members then suggest or try out most of the things Ravi and the other member have already tried. Finally, they decide to move camp down closer to the beach and to build a tent while they wait rather than focusing on the fire.
Last 2 Free Members (43:45- 59:07)
Lunch (43:45- 49:12)
The last two members gorge themselves while they ponder the fate of the other members. They banter about who will be the last man standing and avoid the wilderness camp.
Last Game Explanation:Boat Escape (49:12- 51:49)
The final game to avoid wilderness camp was conducted on the boat that would take them out to the wilderness camp. Each member was given 1 minute to tie a length of rope that was attached to the boat at one end around the other member. Once they were both secured, they would have to escape their ropes and exit the boat to avoid the wilderness camp. The one that was slower would be taken away as soon as the other was off the boat.
Boat Escape (51:49- 59:07)
The members enthusiastically tied each other up.
Then there was a *gasp* twist! One of the remaining members had some chocolate while the crew was on break. The members aren’t allowed to each during filming except for what they get from the games, so the member that broke the rule was given penalty. He would have to wait 5 seconds after the other member began to start untying his ropes before he could start untying his ropes.
Wilderness Camp (59:07- 1:05:50)
Ravinception Continued
The members continued to try or say things that poor Ravi had heard or done himself over the course of the day. It’s comforting to know that people everywhere will have the same general idea about how to proceed. The problem of fire became more urgent as the sun was heading toward the horizon.
Glamping (1:05:50- 1:07:18)
The final winner of the day was given a torch to start his grill. He had an RV to sleep in. He was able to relax and listen to music and enjoy coffee and food in peace. Lucky guy.
Wilderness Camp (1:07:18- end of show)
Wild Camping Expert Arrives (1:07:18- end of show)
The production crew finally took pity on the 5 wilderness campers and brought out a wild camping enthusiast to help get a fire started with the materials scavenged on the island. I’m going to make a point of remembering some of the things he said even if I hope to never be in a camping situation. (I’m one of those people that the bugs love eating. *shivers* No camping for me.)
At last, they achieved fire! Good job guys!
Preview- It looks like the wilderness campers might be in for a wild night on the deserted island. I don’t know if they’re spooked all on their own or if the crew has a horror special set up, but I’m excited to find out. I know several of our campers are easily scared.
!!!Spoilers!!!
Couples Jump Rope
Jongmin and Junghoon save more water. Seyoon and Seonho confirmed to go to Wilderness Training Camp.
Boat Escape
Omg! Jongmin loses in the funniest possible way. Junghoon was able to drop the loops down over his hips and simply step out of the rope and off the boat while Jongmin was still waiting out his 5 second penalty. Jongmin was baffled. He ended up spending most of the ride to the deserted island untying himself.
