2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 68

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: Pit-a-pat, Spring Is Here

My Entertainment Score: 8 out 10 laughs

I had ups and downs about this episode. I enjoyed it, but a couple parts were a little slow for my taste without giving the emotional side that the show usually brings in those cases. It also covered less of the trip than usual, only going through the lunch game, so I’m wondering how many episodes this spring trip is going to wield.

What Happened:

Opening (start of episode- 14:19)

Opening Comments (start of episode- 1:00)

The members chat about the setting and the improved weather. They all seem to be in high spirits.

Weighing Seyoon (1:00- 10:30)

A few episodes ago, Seyoon promised to lose 8kg (just shy of 18lbs) in exchange for getting to break his promise not to eat pork belly. If he fails, he has to do several dips in whatever body of water the show happens to be around. I believe they settled on 3 freshwater and 3 saltwater. First they talked about the promise and then they discussed the things he had done to lose weight. Seyoon bargains that if he’s within a couple kg of his goal, they will let him weigh in that night, at the same time as his original weigh-in.

4:20 is where they begin the actual weighing process. Yes, it's a process. He begins as he is and is close to the bargained weight, so he takes off his coat and mic and tries again. He closes the gap by a lot. A cardboard refrigerator box is produced as a changing room and he proceeds to strip to almost nothing. Haha. I’ll put the results in the spoilers.

Trip Theme Explanation (10:30-14:19)

With the return of spring, the crew is planning to have the members experience all the heart-fluttering (or heart-pounding) experiences they can. They are in Haman in South Gyeongsang Province where the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

First Heart Fluttering Experience (14:19- 55:00)

Traveling to Destination (14:19- 17:22)

The members chat about things that make their hearts flutter and make guesses about what the day may hold for them as they go. When they arrive, they see several two-seater airplanes and an airstrip. Everyone, except the adventurous Junghoon, is less than thrilled.

Game Explanation (17:22- 20:53)

Only 3 members will be given the...dubious honor...of going up in the light planes and being allowed to use the controls themselves. In order to choose who will get to fly, they will make paper airplanes. The members whose paper planes fly the farthest will take to the sky themselves. Knowing that the members are mostly composed of scaredy-cats, the crew had them draw randomly to decide who they would represent with their paper airplanes.

Seonho will make and throw a paper airplane that decides Ravi’s fate.

Jongmin decides Junghoon’s fate.

Junghoon decides Dindin’s fate.

Dindin decides Seyoon’s fate.

Ravi decides Jongmin’s fate.

And Seyoon decides Seonho’s fate.

First place will take an hour and a half long flight to tour the area.

Second and third place will take a 20 minute flight to tour the area

Folding and Flying Paper Planes (20:53- 30:00)

The members all do their best, hoping to send each other up in the light planes and avoid it themselves. Jongmin, who’s working for Junghoon (aka the only one taht actually wants to fly), searches up a video on how to fold an award winning plane and carefully follows the instructions. His test is highly effective...do you think the challenge throw was?

The throws begin at 24:24. This was more entertaining than you would expect. Everyone was very anxious and determined, but there were some mishaps.

Flights (30:00- 55:00)

I say flights, but I’m including the flight instruction and some twists in the results of the paper airplane game here. There was a mad scramble. I’ll explain in the spoilers section. The flight instructor was hilarious. He had a way of talking that made it sound as if they were all going to crash and burn, but that it was okay.

The first place flight (1.5 hours) begins at 38:01. This member was extremely nervous to start, but he got over his anxiety and was able to fly the plane and fall in love with the experience. He comes back at 51:37 and gives the members a very long and excited narrative about what he saw and did.

The second place flight begins at 45:11. The second member takes off just after the first for his 20 minute flight. He’s EXTREMELY nervous. Who do you think the man that couldn’t move at all while his plane was in the air was? He was, in fact, so stiff and scared that the flight instructor with him brought him back 5 minutes early so that the next (hopefully more appreciative) member could have the extra time.

The third place flight begins at 50:15. This member...how to say this without spoiling who it is... Let’s say that he also makes the time allotment from the crew somewhat meaningless.

Second Heart Fluttering Experience (55:00- end of episode)

Traveling to Destination (55:00- 59:38)

The members chat about the first experience and guess at the second one. Then they talk about how dating and confessing your feelings is a heart-pounding experience. Junghoon talks about how he started dating his wife.

Game Explanation (59:38- 1:02:20)

One of the most heart-fluttering moments is ‘waiting for food delivery’. I have to admit to not totally understanding that one, but hearing them talk about it and knowing how EVERYTHING can be delivered in Seoul, I can almost imagine the feeling.

For the lunch game, the members are given a phone and after looking through a menu book and deciding what they want, they will *at the same time* be allowed to start dialing and ordering food for delivery. The first three deliveries to arrive, will be given to the members that ordered them for lunch.

Lunch Game (1:02:20- 1:14:35)

The members spend some time looking through the menu book and deciding what they will order.

1:03:47 is when the members start the calling process. There are some members that smoothly get through to their restaurants right away. Some members call places that are not delivering at the moment for various reasons (construction, wrong time of day or day of the week, the owner is out doing volunteer work...you name it!). Those members have to scramble to find a new menu/restaurant to order from. Then the waiting begins. This was so much funnier than I would have expected.

Lunch (1:14:35- end of episode)

I laughed at the members that lost. They stand around the winners expressing how delicious the foods being eaten *probably* are.

Preview- Next week, it looks like the members will be getting all dolled up for a heart-fluttering date type experience. I’m not sure how that will work for the two married men on the team, but I trust the show to not be weird on me.

!!!Spoilers!!!

Seyoon is close enough to be allowed to weigh-in again at dinner. Because he failed on the first weigh-in he’ll have to do at least half the original water punishments. If he passes at dinner, it will ONLY be 3. Otherwise, he’ll do the full 6.

Flying paper airplanes results

**I’ll post the results by who will be going flying, rather than who threw the plane.**

1st-Seyoon

2nd-Jongmin

3rd-Dindin

4th-Seonho

5th-Junghoon (aawwww)

6th-Ravi

AND THEN THE TWISTS!

TWIST 1) Some members (Dindin, Jongmin, and Seonho) had won wish cards at the 1 year anniversary show that would allow them to get out of one thing at any time they wish as long as they could produce the card. Jongmin used his wish card to give a flying spot to Junghoon, instead of himself. YAY! Congrats, Junghoon!

TWIST 2) Seyoon, when he gets into the plane, is declared unable to ride the plane because the seatbelt won’t reach around him. Everyone moves up one spot, meaning Dindin will get the long flight and Seonho, in 4th, will now get a short flight….buuuuut!

TWIST 3) Seonho uses his wish card to give his short flight back to Jongmin. HAHAHAHAHA.

**Junghoon flies for much longer than his allotted time and comes back SUPER happy!**

Lunch Game Results

1st-Seonho’s tteokbokki arrives.

*The second delivery driver arrives with 3 orders!*

2nd- Dindin’s jjajangmyeon arrives.

3rd- Ravi’s ramyeon arrives. YAY! This boy almost never wins in this show, so I love seeing him get to eat.

4th- *gets taken away* Jongmin’s lunchbox arrives.

Jongmin, Junghoon, and Seyoon are given espresso and coffee bean bread to eat (because coffee can make your heart pound...haha...I love the producers of this show sometimes).
