Feb 9 Running Man Episode 677 Review

My Entertainment Score: 8 out of 10 laughs

I’m giving this a much higher score than my personal enjoyment of the episode. My score is based on the games themselves, which I think the staff did a good job of creating. However, I was disappointed by some of the behavior in the episode, which came across as more rude than funny to me. So, I have no intention of revisiting this episode personally.

What Happened:

Theme: Fall Gourmet Party Race

Opening/Guest Introductions (start of episode- 13:00)

Race Explanation (13:00- 16:00)

Each place that they go, there will be a mission to decide who eats. The winning team will get to eat AND will get prize badges. The losing team will get penalty badges. At the end of the day, the badges will be exchanged for running balls and penalty balls to decide the winner of the day and the member that will get a penalty.

Team Singers: Jongkook, Haha, Mimi, Miyeon

Team Non-singers: Jaesuk, Jihyo, Somin, Sechan

Seokjin is allowed to play for whichever team he chooses, so he joins Team Singers.

First Mission: Expression Queencard (16:00- 36:05)

*Mentally adding this game to the options for the next party I throw….*

The staff created a board with 30 celeb pictures. One member would choose a picture at random. The rest of the team would need to, using face ONLY -no hands or sounds-, match the expression so that the member could guess the card. The twist…most of the pictures were essentially those ‘bad moment to pause’ type expressions. Haha. Each team would be able to guess 5 questions. The team with the most correct guesses wins two prize badges. The losing team will get 1 punishment badge.

Second Mission: Perfect Pitch (36:05- 51:21)

Nine notes will be played. The members need to choose the “Mi” notes. There are 3 “Mi”s in each round. Each member will sit in a chair numbered 1 to 9 with 1 indicating the first note in the progression. The members in the seats matching “Mi” notes will get a full meal. The team that matches more (2:1) will earn half servings for the members that failed to find a “Mi” as well as earning a prize badge. The members on the losing team will get exactly one spoonful of a dish as well as a penalty badge.

Third Mission: Nonsense Proverbs (51:21- 52:47)

This game was played on the bus between mission sites and was truncated. The staff would either prompt “Correct answer” or “Incorrect answer” before giving the first half of a proverb. The member would need to either finish the proverb or give an ending that makes sense but is incorrect. Fourth Mission: I Spilled A Little (52:47- 1:04:50)

One member wore a cap with a tall, skinny vessel (like a test tube) attached to the top. Inside was a red ball. The other members wore caps with genie-type lamps attached to the top. At the far side of the room was a water dispenser (picture the top loading water jugs at an office building with the little flip tap to make it run). One at a time, they would run to the water dispenser, fill the lamp, and run the water back to pour. Hands needed to stay behind the back except for when operating the water dispenser. When the red ball cleared the top of the vessel, the time would stop. Fastest team wins two prize badges and the other team gets one penalty badge.

Fifth Mission: Second Perfect Pitch (1:04:50- 1:12:39)

Sixth Mission: Final Perfect Pitch (1:12:39- 1:22:45)

Seventh Mission: Loyalty Between You and I (1:22:45- 1:27:17)

Teams took turns playing this game. Each member of the team would choose either the “you” card or the “me” card. If everyone was selfish and chose “me”, all the members would get 5 penalty badges. If everyone was selfless and chose “you”, all the members would get 3 prize badges. If only one member betrays the team and chooses “me”, that member will get 4 prize badges while the rest of his team gets 1 penalty badge. If three members betray and choose “me”, only the loyal person will get 1 prize badge while each betrayer will get 4 penalty badges.

Final Results (1:27:17- end of episode)

The prize was a chestnut jam set. The penalty is to peel a basket of chestnuts.

Preview: $1,000 prize envelope hide-and-seek. Someone will win the cash, but only if they can protect the envelope until the end. On the other hand, someone will have to pay for all the snacks and items used during the day.
