Running Man Episode 665-667 pt 1 Review

My Entertainment Score: 3 out of 10 laughs

I was SO happy seeing the one game in this series of episodes. Unfortunately, the only other game was simply ping pong…remember the days when they would have to speak in ONLY Korean or use a strange paddle or trade players after each hit…yeah, this time it was just ping pong. I miss the games. I miss the name tag ripping. Watching the team cook, eat, and chat isn’t what I expect from this show…let’s get back to running, Running Man, pretty please!

What Happened:

Theme: Running Outing Again

Opening (start of episode- 4:50)

Race Explanation (4:50- 10:00)

For the next 4 weeks of episodes, the members will be doing Running Outing episodes. It will be two trips essentially and I will separate the trips into two articles, although I’m not sure it’s strictly speaking necessary to do so. This trip is a “Grandmother’s House” trip as part of the Summer Vacation Specials. They visit a country house and do ‘chores’ for grandma as well as cook meals for themselves.

For this trip, the members will have the chance to earn ‘money exchange coupons’ after each activity. Each will write a note in a personal diary about what they feel they did well in the last activity and pick out a member that they feel could have improved in some way. Both entries are read aloud and only the member that is chosen most for needing improvement will fail to get a coupon. Coupons can also be earned through certain games and each member started the day with 2 coupons.

Coupons can be used at the local store for things that are wanted or needed such as coffee and snacks, but at the end of the day, one will be randomly drawn by the staff and the member chosen that way will get a $3,000 prize.

Note: I’m including the arrival at the house in this timestamp segment.

Note 2: I have no intention of trying to track the coupons each person has throughout the show. There were enough thefts to get things at the market that were not revealed that it was practically meaningless as a viewer.

Chore One- Farming (10:00- 1:27:00 of episode 665)

The members find the list of chores that they need to complete. The members split into two teams. One team will go out to a field to clear out the vines there. The farming team is Seokjin, Jaesuk, Jongkook, and Somin. The rest of the members (Haha, Jihyo, and Sechan) stay at the house and make a set menu that should revitalize the farming team.

Meal - 58:30. This includes a trip to the store to get coffee and snacks.

Diary Time - 1:13:30. This was one of the funnier moments on the trip for me. Not because of the actual diaries, but because of the unintentional and then intentional confusion about the order in which the diaries would be read.

Coupon Game: Get Changed In the Mud (1:27:00 of episode 665- 10:40 of episode 666)

A GAME! YAY! This was played in several bouts. The winners of the bouts got a coupon. In a muddy field, members had to race forward, go through a kiddy pool, and then put on stretchy work pants. The round ended when one member wore both the stretchy pants and his rain boots. And yes…this turned into a mess really really quickly.

Round 1: Haha v Jaesuk (1:29:10)

Round 2: Jongkook v Sechan (4:10)

Round 3: Seokjin v Jihyo v Somin (4:50)

Round 4: Consolation Round (6:30) - This was hilarious nonsense.

Dinner (10:40 of episode 666- 1:02:20)

The menu that the members make is preset by the staff.

Meal - 30:30. Another trip to the store is included here for dessert.

Diary Time - 52:00. The rules were switched for this part. Members had to write what they felt others did well on the positive side.

Rest - 58:45. While the staff has dinner, the members get time to rest and chat.

Second Chore- Picking Bell Peppers (1:02:20 of episode 166- 27:20 of episode 167)

Before bed, the members play a round of ping pong to decide who will wake early in the morning to pick bell peppers and make breakfast. The winning team gets to sleep in until breakfast is done. Somin and Jihyo were allowed to pick teams. Somin Team: Haha and Sechan. Jihyo Team: Seokjin, Jaesuk, Jongkook. The game was played 2 v 2 up to 21 points with substitutions allowed after each point.

Bedtime - 1:25:00.

Bell Pepper Picking/Cooking - start of episode 167.

Breakfast - 19:00.

Diary Time - 22:35.

Final Results (27:20 of episode 167- 28:30)

The final coupon draw for a $3,000 prize….*drumroll*...

Preview: For their next 2 Days, 1 Night trip, the members will take a beach-side vacation with the horrible prospect of a fishing trip in the morning…(yes, it sounded familiar to me too).
