2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 180 - 182 trip Review

2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 180 - 182 trip Review

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip is designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game, a morning mission, and a getting off work game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent, etc. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: Bingsoo trip

My Entertainment Score: overall 10 out 10 laughs

I loved this trip. The guests were funny and the theme was carried out so well. There were also several games that I want to try now. The location was also just my style.

What Happened:

Opening (start of ep 180- 20:50)

*Note: So, I can watch these shows without subtitles and very rarely do I run into instances where puns or word play or abbreviations stymie me…sometimes I do need to look things up. But unfortunately, the whole theme of this episode did that to me. Soo makes sense…Swimming in Korean is sooyeong, so soo is referring to Taehwan. But I can’t for the life of me figure out the bing part and how it relates to Junhwan. It might have something to do with the Chinese character, since that was shown on screen? I don’t know Chinese characters, so that could explain my confusion. Is it just because patbingsoo is essentially shaved ice? If anyone can illuminate me, I’d welcome it.*

The members gather in Chuncheong and give an update on the blind date situation with Inwoo’s manager. Then our esteemed guests arrive! Park Taehwan is a swimmer of many accomplishments to include 5 world titles and Olympic Gold! Cha Junhwan is a figure skater who is making all kinds of firsts for his country. He’s been to the Olympics twice already at age 21! I personally love watching him skate. In a world where sports are increasingly about size and muscle, he manages elegance through it all.

Team Formation Hit Or Miss - 17:25. Bingsoo and salt bingsoo were prepared. Members chose randomly. Those without salt would join Junhwan’s team. Those with salt joined Taehwan’s team. Everyone ate at the same time.

Lunch Game (20:50- end of episode 180)

Ice blocks were hidden around a park, one for each member. And when I say block, I mean a huge block. One of them couldn’t fit in a backpack at all.  After finding a block, the member needed to melt the block to get the clue that would let them finish the mission for a meal. Also around the park were little missions that could earn members items to help melt the blocks of ice (such as a hair dryer).  One game was gonggi with eggs where the goal was not to break the eggs. Another was a hit or miss where the ice block would either be doubled or halved in size. There was a hit or miss game with steamed buns. Another mission was to find a peacock displaying his tail and take a picture.

(1:14:00) The mission after finding all the hints was to go in a duck boat and find a flag…which was held by a staff member in another duck boat. (Duck boats move by pedaling like a bike, in case you didn’t know). The very tiring chase is on.

Lunch - 1:19:50. Adorably, all of the members of the winning team ate half the meal while standing. I don’t even know what started it. They all had seats.

Pool Games - Tour Choice (start of episode 181- 54:00)

2 v 6 Swimming Race - 2:00. This was originally offered as a 1 vs 7 race, but to be fair they changed it. The winning team gets coffee and if Taehwan wins, he gets a wish card to use!

Bucket Pool Race - 11:50. Members started at various parts around the pool. (Two rounds with 4 players each.) They sat in big buckets and needed to paddle to a float in the middle of the pool. At the end of two minutes, those on the float got to choose what they would do next…either a structured ‘environment-friendly premium package tour’ or free time.

Tours - 24:12. They switch back and forth between the free time team and the ‘premium tour’ team. They seemed pretty annoyed by the tour, but I would actually have loved it. There was an animal farm and a short hike collecting pine cones ending with snacks. The acupressure sandals would have been the least fun part, but I actually like those.

Dinner Games (54:00 of episode 181- 13:35 of episode 182)

Three games were played. In each game, the members that didn't play had to guess who would win. The members with the most correct guesses (and wins if they play) get dinner.

Group Dive - 54:15. This was a 1 vs 3 relay of holding breath underwater. The 1 was obviously Taehwan. The 3 were Junghoon, Jongmin, and Dindin who are all singers. This was AMAZING.

Elephant Spins - 1:02:25. Junhwan plays against the master of elephant spins, Jongmin. After doing 30 spins, they had to run forward and precisely mark a circle with ink from their finger. Again…this was AMAZING!

*Note: New running joke about having done this 200,000 to 300,000 times is born here.*

3x Hit or Miss - 1:13:00. The Olympians play against each other so that they can get the full 2 Days, 1 Night experience. Haha. There are 3 foods prepared: water v salt water, walnut bread v wasabi bread, and raw v boiled eggs (to break on the forehead). The first man to get 3 correct answers in a row wins!

Dinner - 1:25:30. At the start of episode 182, the losing team plays games to earn some more delicious food.

After dinner (at the start of episode 182), everyone is sitting for a time of relaxation. The Olympians answer a lot of questions.

Sleeping Game (13:35 of episode 182- 47:07)

Everyone heads to an ice rink where Junhwan shows off some of his routine! (I love that he admits he’s cold out there too.)

Beat Junhwan Freeze Tag - 18:25. This is a warm up game, so it’s played for prizes not to sleep indoors, Junhwan has 5 minutes to catch the rest of the members in a game of freeze tag. Junghoon, Jongmin, Seyoon, Taehwan, and Dindin wear little sock shoes rather than skates. A second round was played with only 1 minute 30 seconds on the clock…if that gives you any idea of how round one went.

Human Slingshot - 26:45. Everyone plays without skates to be fair. And new teams are chosen. Taehwan: Junghoon, Jongmin, Seyoon versus Junhwan: Dindin, Inwoo, Seonho.

This was simple and looked like so much fun! Bungees were strapped across the width of the rink. Teams took turns pulling those back while one member sat on a sled in the V and was then launched forward. The goal was to get as close as possible to a flag across the rink.

Ice Musical Chairs - 41:05. Extra game to allow two more people to sleep inside because they had two special guests for this trip. The chairs were the sleds used in the previous game. The walking around the circle and battle for chairs was…adorable. So many penguins. haha

Morning Mission (47:07- 1:02:30)

**Completely unrelated note: If anyone knows where to get the shorts Junhwan was wearing, I’d love that information.**

To decide who would eat, the order of arrival at the flag was critical. Each member had to draw a name. If the name drawn had arrived later, then that member would get breakfast. Drawing one’s own name would result in no breakfast. This meant that number 1 would definitely get breakfast and number 8 would definitely not get breakfast.

Breakfast - 57:00.

Getting Off Work Mission (1:02:30- end of episode 182)

Four teams of two had to memorize and perform an idol dance challenge. Two of the teams had more dance experience and were given a harder challenge. Jongmin, Inwoo, Seonho, and Junhwan were given Seventeen’s “Super”. Junghoon, Seyoon, Dindin, and Taehwan were given (G)I-DLE’s “Queencard”. Everyone is able to practice for 15 minutes and then they can challenge as often as they want. The first two teams to pass get to go home immediately. The other two teams will go on a special ‘premium tour’.

To Review and Simplify Teams:

Hard choreography (Super) teams:

Junhwan and Seonho

Jongmin and Inwoo

Easier choreography (Queencard) teams:

Junghoon and Dindin

Seyoon and Taehwan

Challenges begin at 1:10:00 and are judged by two staff members.

Premium Tour - 1:23:00. Chuncheon cable car ride. It’s the longest cable car in the country and the views look phenomenal. At the peak, the members get a snack…and they’re not able to leave until they finish it.

Preview: Summer Vacation Special - Mini World Tour. The members attempt to avoid deportation for various country themed spots at a theme park by embracing the culture there. Let’s take a guess at who will do the best…I’m guessing…Junghoon?

So, Jongmin, Seyoon, Inwoo, and Taehwan would need to take the extra tour.

BUT–Taewhan uses his wish card to avoid the extra tour.

BUT–Junhwan uses his wish card to void Taehwan’s wish. Haha

**Note: ANY time that a member did not win the meal on this trip, they would get a bingsoo instead, to include the snack on the extra tour at the end.**
