2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 192- 194 pt 1 Holiday Special trip Review

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip is designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game, a morning mission, and a getting off work game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent, etc. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: Walking Holiday Special trip

My Entertainment Score: overall 10 out 10 laughs

I enjoyed this one start to finish. A couple of the games were genius in both their simplicity (anyone could set up and play the game) and their potential for absolute chaos. Add in a quiz game that had my children asking, “WHAT? Are they acting or do they really think that’s the answer?” and I was one happy camper!

What Happened:

Opening (start of ep 192- 9:10)

After meeting in Gwangju, in the Gyeonggi Province, the members are allowed to immediately order coffee and snacks! As you may guess, that kind of generous start bred great suspicion in the members, but no suited men came to drag them off. Instead, they were directed to enjoy themselves in the refreshing cool of the stream behind the coffee shop.

Holiday Items Game (9:10- 17:37)

So that the members can fully enjoy their summer holiday, the staff prepares a water gun game where the members can get items for the trip. Each member will get one item. Cans were labeled with the 6 items available and placed on a table. Two tables stood on either side, each with 3 water guns. The member who knocks over a can, gets the item it is labeled with. If a member knocks over more than one can, he only gets the item from the can he knocked over first.

The items are: A microphone, a mini electric hand fan, a butterfly net, a ukulele, a carry-on suitcase, and an inflatable pool tube.

Only after winning the items, do the members learn that they must carry the items with them at all times for this trip.

Lunch Courses (17:37 of episode 192- 7:10 of episode 193)

The members travel to Namhansanseong, which looks stunning by the way, for the lunch game. After each of two walking courses, one member will get a benefit: The Absolute Vote. The members to get lunch will be decided through a vote.

Palace Course: Deliver the Public Appeal to the King (19:33). This includes a couple games to get into the palace itself. First, they must catch a paper as it falls from the second story. To get through the next gate, the members must play Red Light, Green Light. The next courtyard requires members to limbo along the path. The final courtyard’s challenge is to spot the differences between two portraits. Finally, the members deliver the appeal. BUT WAIT! They must identify the sender of the appeal…an animal or cartoon picture.

1st place in this course gets 5 votes. 2nd place gets 3 votes and 3rd place gets 2 votes. The three slowest members will get one vote.

Pedometer (43:45). The member that took the most steps during the palace mission gets 3 votes.

Sueojangdae Post Race (45:25). Votes are given to everyone when they reach the post based on their arrival order because the outpost is up a difficult path for 1.2 kilometers.

1st - 10 votes

2nd - 8 votes

3rd - 6 votes

4th - 4 votes

5th - 2 votes

6th - 1 vote

In order to determine the starting times and order, each member had an egg in a cup given to them. It was dyed half red. Using only their breath, each member needed to flip the egg so that the red half was up. After that, they could immediately begin. At the end, they must flip another egg to win.

**Note: one of the cameramen gets eliminated in this race by giving up. Poor guy. So funny though.**

Suoejangdae Post Course: On All Fours (1:00:29)

For this mission votes aren’t earned from the staff. They are taken from other members. First place gets to steal 10 votes, second place gets to steal 5 votes and third place gets to steal 3 votes.

This was a very simple race! Each member has a lane and four blocks. Moving on all fours, the members must make their way to the end of the lane. If any limb touches the ground, that member must begin again. Foot dragging is not allowed.

Voting (1:15:10).

Lunch (start of episode 193).

Special Game: Random Songpyeon Game (7:10- 45:23)

The members split into two teams. Each team created 10 good songpyeon and 10 bad songpyeon, which were then cooked by the staff. 5 good and 5 bad songpyeon were plated by each team and given to the opposing team. Members took turns eating one one at a time. Anytime a bad songpyeon was chosen, the unfortunate member that ate it was out. The team with the longest lasting member wins a special prize…

Spa Treatment (30:00) NAIL CARE! Nail technicians were brought in for a little TLC for the winning members. The other team was allowed to dye their nails in the traditional way, with

Dinner Game: Land Control Quiz Game (45:23- end of episode 193)

Eom Ji-in joins to present the quiz for this segment. There are exactly 20 questions and the game is played in teams of 2. A board with 25 spaces is set up. Each space represents a dish. Beginning at the outside, a dish can be chosen for each correct answer given. After choosing a dish on the outside of the board, the next dish chosen must touch the first square ‘occupied’ by that team. In the instance of teams controlling touching squares and one team getting a correct answer, the team can steal from the other team…but stealing means they will take ALL the squares accumulated by that team.

**I was both baffled and amused by just how poorly they did in this quiz…**

Dinner - 1:18:15.

Sleeping Game: Chain Letter Missions (start of episode 194- 31:56)

Each person is given a tent at the glamping site…for 15 minutes. Three members begin with congratulatory letters. Three members are given a chain letter! The ones with a chain letter must complete a mission in order to pass on the chain letter. When they pass on the letter, they can choose the number of the mission for the next member. At the end of 15 minutes, the members with the chain letters will have to sleep outside.

The missions are:

  1. Thread a needle while wearing low-frequency massagers on both forearms.

  2. Ballad and Dance (300 steps on a pedometer)

  3. Catch 8 Coins from your inner arm.

  4. Open a bottle using a bottle opener with your feet.

  5. Untangle earphone cords.

  6. Twerking Toilet Paper Flip

Sleeping - 28:38

Morning Mission (31:56- 48:07)

After splitting into the same teams of 3 from yesterday, each team picked a direction to follow in Paldang Water Mist Park. One direction was a short bike ride to a mission. The mission was to lay down and put a half-filled plastic cup on his forehead. Then, without using his hands, stand all the way up. Any water left was poured into a container until it was filled to a certain line. The other direction led the team around the entire place…twice. When each team finished their mission, they were able to go home.

Preview: A Sentimental Trip awaits us…according to the staff. Gotta say, seeing grown men in fairy tale costumes attempting to break curses like “can’t speak without inhaling helium” and “act out a famous romantic scene from a drama” isn’t exactly my idea of sentimentality, but it does sound like a fantastically funny concept.
