2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 171- 173 part 1 Spring Photography trip Review
*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip is designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game, a morning mission, and a getting off work game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent, etc. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Spring Photography trip
My Entertainment Score: overall 8 out 10 laughs
There was a ton of sweetness in this episode around heaps of funny games.
What Happened:
Opening (start of ep 171- 9:40)
The members gather in front of the KBS building in Seoul early in the morning. The destination for the day is Buyeo which is known for its historical sites and beautiful, photographic scenery. Therefore, the members will take a spring photography trip!
They are given 7 specific photos to take in any order before 5pm in order to sleep indoors.
A palm blast photo in front of blooming cherry blossom trees
Take a photo at a specific school with every 9th grader in a human pyramid (There was a time restriction on this one).
Take a picture of ‘3 years younger Junghoon’ in front of a famous rock with the wind fluttering in his hair….haha, so specific.
Capture someone sweating as they enjoy a seasonal food
Make a heart picture in front of the Love Tree….bucket list updated!
A fashion photoshoot displaying 5 fashion trends
Recreate a famous spring rain movie scene.
**Note: This was a team mission. Everyone could sleep indoors. However, any pictures that were a failure would result in a member sleeping outdoors**
The members are given $60 total to take the trip and told that they can earn more money at one of the rest stops along the way.
Photography (Sleeping) Race (9:40 of episode 171- 17:20 of episode 172)
Rest Stop Allowance Earning Games (12:45- 43:15).
Three games were presented to the members. For each, there was a mission fee to play that had to be paid out of the allowance they had. However, each mission successfully completed earned an additional $200. Each attempt at the game required a mission fee. This means that if they completed all three games on the first try, they would have over $600 to spend on the trip. Conversely, if they attempted a game again and again, it is very possible that they could end up with no money for the trip.
Game 1: Hit a ping pong ball off a table and into a basketball hoop. $3 Mission fee.
Game 2: Get a doll out of a claw machine. $1 Mission fee.
Game 3: Spin an item on your finger without dropping it as you move around a statue. Each item had a different mission fee for this game and could only be used once.
**Fun Event: They meet Seonho’s actual father randomly at a rest stop! (49:00)
Photo 3 Attempt - 54:55 of episode 171. The members take a gorgeous traditional boat which passes by the rock necessary. They make Junghoon younger by drinking from a spring which is said to reverse aging..which is also beautiful. Then return by boat and take the picture. What could go wrong?
Photo 2 Attempt - 1:09:40 of episode 171. The members meet an 83 year old grandmother who is working on earning her education late in life. She hadn’t been able to go to school as a child and has been going through grade by grade with the children around her. Coming from a family that values education greatly, I absolutely loved this story.
They also highlighted the school’s baseball team, which has produced pro players two years in a row. The school is extremely small with most of the students in the current graduating class, but students are coming for the baseball team. I wish them the best of luck! How nice is it that the members spent some of the time they really didn’t have to take some pitches and let the players show their budding talent? Love these guys.
Photo 4 Attempt - 1:25:35 of episode 171. Due to the time of day, most restaurants were closed to reset between lunch and dinner.
Photo 1 Attempt - start of episode 172.
Photos 5 and 7 Attempt - 2:15 of episode 172. The Love Tree has a curved branch. I don’t know what clever person thought to take a photo of two people and then flip one to make it look like both people were standing under the tree making another heart with their hands, but I’m a fan of that person. Someone even helpfully marked the spot where the photo comes out best.
Results - 10:55. I’m including a short break time in this segment.
Dinner Game (17:20 of episode 172- 1:01:72 of episode 172)
The team travels to the 5 story stone pagoda at the Jeongnimsa Temple which is a World Heritage Site. The staff prepared 6 full servings of the duck dinner…however, they had to complete a mission to ‘save’ them. Each failed attempt would result in 3 servings being removed! Luckily there were only 3 missions…wait, 3? I’ll explain in the spoilers.
Game 1 - Human Tower Trio - 20:00. The members received 3 human tower poses. Within 10 minutes each pose needed to be struck and held for 3 seconds in order to succeed and save 3 servings of dinner.
Game 2 - Relay Tube Removal - 34:10. Each member had an innertube placed at his feet. With his hands behind his back, a member had to step into the innertube and then find a work to work it up his body and over his head. Once clear, the next member could begin and so on. The team had 2 minutes 30 seconds to get all members free.
Game 3 - Run Around the Pagoda - 39:05. The members begin at equal distances from each other around the pagoda. They play catch the tail, essentially. When one member runs and catches another, the caught member is out. However, every 10 seconds, a whistle is blown to indicate a change of direction, so if a member runs quickly to catch the person in front of him, but doesn’t make it before the whistle, he’ll find himself sprinting for his life from his prey. Anyone that turns before the whistle is automatically out.
Dinner - 50:53.
Sleeping Game- Secure the Attic (1:01:00 of episode 172- 2:54 of episode173)
Three rooms are labeled 1 through 3. The first person to go to a room becomes its owner. Anyone that comes after that will have to play a game to win the room. Each room has a game already attached to it. The owner of the rooms at the end of 10 minutes will get to sleep inside. The members drew spoons to determine the order to enter the house.
Inwoo
Seonho
Junghoon
Jongmin
Dindin
Seyoon
The missions in each room are as follows:
Room 1: While kneeling on a pile of pillows, the members had to jump and pull out the top cushion all in one motion. If the pile toppled, he would have to restack and start the mission again. First to remove all the cushions becomes the room owner.
Room 2: Cup Necklace Basketball. I LOVED THIS GAME!!!! Genuinely giggled for the entirety of each time that it was played. So did the staff member in the room. Each member had a plastic cup hung around their neck like a necklace. Then they had a basket of ping pong balls. They had to shake their shoulders to make the cup harder to hit while trying to toss ping pong balls in the other person’s cup. First to 3 ‘goals’ won the room.
Room 3: Mission Impossible. Strings with bells all along them are criss-crossed across the attic space to represent laser sensors. Making it across the room without ringing a bell created the opportunity to play a head pushing game for the room. The two members would lay down on their backs with their heads touching, then use their feet to push off the wall. The first member to give in or to be moved beyond a certain line would lose the room.
Breakfast Mission Choice - 1:27:20. The sleeping indoors team had to choose between two keywords for ‘which breakfast they wanted’. After choosing, it’s revealed that the outdoor sleepers are going to leave at 6:30 am for a $300 breakfast course. The indoor sleeping team will leave at 7:30 for breakfast.
Sleeping - 1:29:28.
Breakfast (2:54 of episode 173- 19:48 of episode 173)
The outdoor sleepers with the $300 breakfast course…yeah, that $300 is the cost of renting a hot air balloon. Simple boxed meals are brought along. Haha. As you know, there are a couple guys that are thoroughly scared of heights. Poor guys.
The indoor sleepers conversely get to eat a meal of the royals while enjoying the company of an adorable little dog.
Preview: A Lucky Day Trip. The members test their luck, after gathering punishment cards. Can they pass off the punishments to the other members? Will any get away easily?
