Variety Review: Running Man Episode 627

Guests: Kim Seokjin (aka Jin of BTS)

My Entertainment Score: 8 out of 10 laughs

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. They actually let him play real games and he seemed quite happy to play.

What Happened

Theme: Team Transfer Race: Seokjin v Seokjin

Team Formation/Guest Introductions (start of episode- 26:54)

Each Seokjin was in a black van. Each member had to pick a van without seeing inside first in order to form the teams. Then they all gathered up and did the opening.

Teams:

Seokjin- Jaesuk, Haha, Jihyo

Jin- Jongkook, Sechan, Somin

Race Explanation (26:54- 28:33)

After each mission, the winning team members will get 1 penalty ball. The losing team members will get 2. At the end of the day, the member chosen for the penalty will receive it with their entire team.

Transfer tickets are going to be handed out to the winning team as well. However, only one or two tickets will be genuine transfer tickets. The rest will be duds. They will choose randomly to determine who gets the transfer tickets for each round. Those can be ‘spent’ at a booth at any time to swap themselves, a teammate, or even the captains. (Because of that rule, I won’t keep track of teams going forward.) Three tickets are given to each captain to begin. They can keep as many as two, but must give one away.

Tickets To Start:

Seokjin- 2

Jin - 2

Jihyo- 1

Jongkook- 1

First Mission: Foot Volleyball with an Extra Rule (28:33- 52:00)

This is played 3 v 3. Until one team reaches 11 points, there is an extra rule: English speaking only. Or rather…they tried that and it wasn’t working because no one really knew English except for Jongkook, so they changed it to NO English words. After that, the extra rule changes to . The first team to 21 wins. In addition to getting the transfer tickets and lower number of penalty balls, the winning team gets a jjamppong lunch instead of a box lunch.

Lunch - 48:50.

Second Mission: No, No. It’s Fire (52:00- 1:08:00)

They get sidetracked with interview Jin time until 58:06.

For this game, teams will take turns calling out to a member of the team and asking a question or making a statement. To defend, the person simply has to answer ‘no’ and do some action to prove it. I really enjoyed this one.

Third Mission: It’s the Astronaut on Soap Water (1:08:00- 1:22:45)

This was another super fun one. The goal each round was very simple-Make the pop up pirate pop. To get the swords for the game, they just had to pop balloons. So what made it fun? Two members of each team played at a time…and everyone was attached by elastic bands tied around their waists…and they were on a water and soap covered mat.

Round 1: Jin and Jaesuk v Seokjin and Jongkook

Round 2: Jihyo and Somin v Haha and Sechan

Round 3: Jin and Jaesuk v Jongkook and Sechan

Final Results (1:22:45- end of episode)

The penalty is a whipped cream cannon.

Preview: A special Autumn Tour where the members have to earn the right to wear seasonally appropriate clothes. Can they keep their cool…or their heat…as they take on this challenge?
