Concert Review: Ateez- Break The Wall
The Manelykpop crew went to see Ateez again, the second time this year thanks to the substantially delayed 2020 tour. This also marks the second time that the whole team has seen a concert together, so that’s fun! So, you may think, what’s the difference between this tour and the previous, so let’s start there.
Compared to the 2020 tour, Break The Wall is on a whole new scale, it was a full arena where we went, with a full stage and walk-out, which is very different from the medium large venue. The upside, the group gets more room to move around, we get big screens to aid in the viewer experience, and there’s so much more to see on a full scale level. The downside is that it does feel less personal, my favorite venues are standing ones where you can just see the artist directly with your eyes, but that’s up to you. The crowd energy was also different, it was one of the calmest concerts I’ve ever been at, but everybody was still having fun, it’s hard to explain, that might have just been my stop, but I actually was able to stay seated the whole time because nobody actually stood up, which I do like, you can still move to the music and actually see, win-win. So, the differences are there, I kind of prefer the smaller venue, but liked the calm energy, so how about the set list?
Set list was revamped, a mix of the hits and some new concert songs and remixes. I really just loved the pirate section of the show, where they did a bunch of the singles from the Treasure era, which is my favorite. I'm always ready to jam out to Say My Name, Hala Hala, and scream Hakuna Matata to Wave. The other section that really stood out to me was the cyberpunk section, which had some interesting remixes, some that I didn’t like, but it was a really dynamic and interesting section to listen to, I enjoyed it. I also watched people’s souls leave their body after some San choreo involving chairs at this point, which was hilarious.
Lastly, I want to talk about something that made our stop feel unique, it was right around Atiny’s birthday (Ateez fandom for any newer fans) and the group made sure we knew it. Specifically, Hongjoong, who said “happy birthday Atiny,” more times in the span of one concert than can be considered acceptable, and I loved it. It was legendary honestly, I think people are going to hear him saying it in their dreams. In regards to energy from the members in general, I felt like Mingi, Hongjoong, and Yeosang were thriving the most here, while some members definitely suffered from the more impersonal distance of a big stage. Note, when I say struggled referring to Ateez members in concert, they’re still outperforming most idols. This group is the best group for live performance entertainment in the industry.
I would ultimately rate this concert a 8.5 or 9 out of 10, I had a blast. But honestly, it’s Ateez I always will have a blast watching them in concert. I think if there’s any group to bring a non-kpop fan to see live, they are the one, they’re just that good. With that said, did you go or are you going to go to see Ateez on this tour? If you have any pictures feel free to share on our discord, hope to see you there.
