Variety Review: Running Man Episode 615 pt 2- 616

Variety Review: Running Man Episode 615 pt 2- 616

Guests: Ha Dokwon (actor), Joo Woojae (model), Lee Yikyung (actor)

My Entertainment Score:  out of 10 laughs

Episode 615 pt 2 was a 7 for me. Honestly, I would have ranked this lower if I hadn’t been COMPLETELY wrong about which members had $0. It felt like a tremendous twist.

Episode 616 was a 9 for me. There were a few super funny moments in this episode. For me, the quote of the game was “Try to take away my points.” Would anyone like to guess who said this? Teehee.

What Happened

Theme: Race Of Groups

Mission Fund Bet (42:00 of ep. 615- 46:00)

The members arrive at different locations along the Han River. They are told to write down how much they want for the mission fund for the day and that the race is to individually have the most money at the end of the day. They can write any number up to $10,000! The catch is that the members that write the lowest and the highest amount will not get any of the allowance.

Team Formation (46:00- end of ep. 615)

The three guests can pick any two members that they want for their teammates. They start with $0, but can collect money from the members for the privilege of joining a team. One member will be left over and will form a team of 1.

1:19:13 - After all the guests have locked in their teams, everyone gathers in one place and the guests learn how much mission fund they will actually be receiving. All of them have been promised money by the members they chose, but at least one has a $0 member.

Race Explanation (start of ep 616- 3:24)

For the rest of the race, the members will be playing in teams. For the first game, they will play 3 v 3 v 3 v 1. The least wealthy teams after that will combine into the other two teams. The last games will be played 5 v 5. The wealthiest INDIVIDUALS at the end of the day will get a prize and the poorest will get a punishment.

For each game, the teams will have a CHANCE to increase their personal funds based on the rank. For example, the first place team may have a cap of $80. Each member will write an amount they would like up to $80. As with the mission fund bet earlier, the member(s) that ask for the highest amount will get nothing. Meanwhile the second place team may have a cap of $50 and so on.

First Mission: Strawberry Story Game  (3:24- 23:50)

This game is not a rhythm game, but they clap along to the Strawberry Game’s beat in order to regulate how long the members take to answer. They have 3 rounds of beat to give a response and call out the next member’s name. In each round, they are given a theme such as “Things Jongkook would say” (HILARIOUS) or “Things a mom might say”. They have to give responses appropriate to the theme. The catch is that they must start their response with a set letter. The letters are set beforehand…something like this. 1. N 2. Y 3. D 4. J…and so on.

Team Combining Game: Balance Beam Cham-Cham-Cham (23:46- 33:30)

The two teams that were currently the poorest were absorbed into the two wealthier teams using this game. Played in pairs, the members put on HUGE hand gloves and play Cham-Cham-Cham while standing on a balance beam. The winner of a round can hit the loser with the big hand in order to knock him off the balance beam. Whomever stays on the balance beam longest wins the round and gets to choose which team to enter. The loser has to play another round with another loser.

They draw numbers to determine the early round match ups. The winners of the early rounds only lose $1 as they join their new team. The winners of the second rounds lose $3. The winner of the final round loses $5 and the final loser loses $10 (I think).

Second Mission: Arithmetic One-Legged Battle (33:30- 48:46)

This game was SO much funnier than it had any right to be. Each team starts with one player for the one-legged battle. They set an order for the rest of the members to enter the battle. The problem is…the new entrants can only participate after they solve a two digit multiplication problem without scratch paper. So, if one team was better at math than the other, it could be a 3 v. 1 battle or worse.

Blue Team Order:

  1. Dokwon

  2. Jihyo

  3. Woojae

  4. Sechan

  5. Jongkook

Orange Team Order:

  1. Yikyung

  2. Jaesuk

  3. Seokjin

  4. Somin

  5. Haha

Third Mission: Extra Rules Foot Volleyball (48:46- 1:22:00)

The teams play foot volleyball, which is always funny anyway. But for each 12 points, there is an additional rule. At first, they set strange noises for the other team to make each time they kicked the ball. If they failed to make the right noise, the other team would get a point. Once one team made it to 12 points, they began following the second rule: No speaking formally. Period. Even when addressing the PD, they had to speak informally. When either team made it to 24 points, they continued to speak informally, but added that everyone had to be ‘happy’ while playing…smiling and showing no signs of frustration. The first team to 36 won.

Final Results (1:22:00- end of episode)

Preview: Real Estate Investment Race. They did something like this before. They are going to divide an area into squares that the members can “purchase”...some near food…some near the bathroom…some with water guns… The members have to be wise about how they will spend their money and how they will deal with their members. It looks like their adding a ‘speculation’ element where unforeseen circumstances can raise or lower the value of certain ‘plots’ of land. I’m looking forward to this one.
