Variety Review: Running Man Episode 585 pt 2- 586

Guests: None–special appearance of famous fortune teller

My Entertainment Score: 5  out of 10 laughs

I generally liked this episode, but it was a bit chaotic and that kept me from being fully engaged.

What Happened

Theme: Pay the Fortune Tellers Fee Race

Member Fortune Reading (1:07:47 - end of episode 585)

Each member had their fortune read except Jaesuk who was in quarantine.

Jaesuk Fortune Reading (start of episode 586- 21:04)

Somin did Jaesuk’s fortune reading.

Race Explanation (21:04- 29:34)

The fortune reading cost $7000. The members must earn enough to pay for their fortune reading. They can do that through either games or labor, all of which is outlined for them in handy menus that set the prices.

The games are things like the pop-up pirate, header basketball, and getting everyone into frame for a picture. They are only allowed 10 tries for each game.

The labor tasks are things like writing New Year’s cards to the staff or making up new games.

They must earn $7000 before 3pm or they will face a penalty. The number of members that will be chosen for the penalty is based on the difference between what they owe and what they earn. For each $100 that they fail to earn, another penalty ball will be chosen.

The members will be chosen for the penalty using a random drawing much like the early years. Penalty balls are assigned at this time based on the score of their fortune reading. The first place member (with the best fortune) can “curse” anyone they want three times during the day to give them 5 more penalty balls. The rest of the members can try to get a bullseye on a huge dart board in order to give a member of their choice more penalty balls. If they miss, however, they will get (for themselves) penalty balls in the amount that they land on. For example, if Jihyo throws the dart and lands on 8, Jihyo would get 8 more penalty balls herself.

Missions (29:34- 1:24:53)

The members are allowed to move freely between missions and back to ones they have covered before if they failed it the first time. I’m not going to timestamp all of that.

Final Results (1:21:48- end of episode)

The penalty is to make a short video. In the video, they should watch the currently airing Running Man episode and laugh out loud each time their face comes on the screen.

Preview: Next week there’s a battle of the youngest members to see which of them can really claim that esteemed position! Sechan vs Somin…who can win (or bribe) their way into winning an election among the members?
