Variety Review- 2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 74

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*

****IMPORTANT NOTE! As summer approaches and I will have my kiddos home all day every day, I’m planning to restructure these reviews. I plan to put out ONLY ONE review per TRIP rather than per episode. This means you’ll get 1 review every 2-4 weeks depending on how the show structures everything. I will break down where each game is found by episode and time stamp. If you hate, hate, hate this idea, please leave a comment for me and I’ll see what I can do to accomodate.****

This Trip’s Theme: This is the Moment, Finished

My Entertainment Score: 8 out 10 laughs

This week we got an episode with scenes I’ll probably go back and watch again when I’m bored and need a pick-me-up. Nothing was stand-out funny, but no part of the episode dragged either. This was a great way to end this trip.

What Happened:

Dinner (opening- 14:25)

You should know already from last week’s episode who won dinner and lunch, so I don’t feel bad telling you that they continued their incredible eating show. They won’t need food for a week.

The losing team competed for a taste of the main dinner when they were unsatisfied with the consolation dinner that the staff prepared.

Sleeping Indoors/Outdoors Game (14:25- 49:15)

Game Explanation (14:25- 18:41) AND (28:12- 29:11) AND (39:59- 40:34)

The members chat for a while about how they are doing on this trip and if their teams are working out.

17:21 The game explanation begins. They will play three games collectively called the trio of timing games. The first team to win 2 games will get to sleep indoors.

The first game is The Steel Delivery Box Quiz. One member will hold a delivery box and open and close it quickly until a member is able to guess what the staff has placed inside. The teams take turns having a member work the box.

28:12 The second game is Photos after Elephant Trunk Spins. One member from each team will start on opposite sides of the beach. They will do 15 elephant trunk spins and then race to the center where a camera is waiting. A 30 second timer will be set on the camera starting when the members are given the ‘go’ whistle to start spinning. They have to have their whole face (eyes, nose, and lips) appear in the photo to succeed. If both members succeed, the member closer to the camera will win.

39:59 The last  game is Shoe Free Throw on the Swings. One member from each team will ride the swing set, pushed by a member from the opposing team. After 30 seconds, they will be able to kick off their sandals, attempting to get them into a wire basket a little ways in front of them. After everyone has played, the team with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, they will play until someone makes a shot...first shot in wins.

Steel Delivery Box Quiz (18:41- 28:12)

This was a hoot, from the skill (or lack thereof) of the person wielding the box, to the insane guesses, to the items chosen by the staff. I giggled from start to finish through this game.

Photos after Elephant Trunk Spins (29:11- 39:59)

Hilarious. Particularly Ravi v. Jongmin.

Shoe Free Throw on the Swings (40:34- 49:15)

This looks like a wholesome game that kids could play at any playground. The members, of course, messed around in various ways to keep things interesting, but it wouldn’t need to go that way.

Morning Mission (49:15- end of episode)

Sleep (49:15- 52:56)

The losers slept in a tent on the beach and the waves sounded enthusiastic. It would have been tough to fall asleep if you weren’t used to it.

Morning Mission Explanation (46:33- 49:47)

They had a conversation first and then tried to deflect the PD from being able to send them anywhere far away after she asked them what the most beautiful scenery they had seen on the program was. They were so suspicious that the PD ended up laughing.

In the end, the morning mission was to take one of 3 walking paths around Buan’s coastline. They were separated by length: 40 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours to walk the full length . They drew straws to decide who they would partner with for ‘plogging’, which is a word that combines the Swedish word for cleaning and ‘jogging’...essentially it’s jogging or walking with a trash bag and grabber hand and cleaning any litter you see as you go.

Partners will start on opposite sides of the trail and walk towards each other. Only when they meet up and take a confirmation photo of their cleaning efforts will they be allowed to go home.

Morning Mission (49:47- end of episode)

For most of the members this looked like an enjoyable exercise. One team had a twist...

Preview- The members are going to finishing school in the hopes of becoming true gentlemen...well, they’re doing 2 Days 1 Night’s version of finishing school at any rate. I wonder if it will help.
