Variety Review 2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 130- 132 pt. 1 Loyalty School trip

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 5 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: Loyalty School trip

My Entertainment Score: overall 8 out 10 laughs

Episode 130 was an 8 for me. I like the idea of this trip. It hadn’t totally paid off by the end of this episode because they were actually being loyal (whaaaat?), but even doing that, there were funny moments and it was nice to watch.

Episode 131 was a 9 for me. This episode was packed with content.

Episode 132 pt. 1 was a 5 for me. This was less than 10 minutes long, so there wasn’t a ton to love or hate.

What Happened:

Opening (start of ep 130- 24:01)

The members are given self cameras and a notice about the “school trip” they would be taking the next day. They film themselves packing and being concerned about the supply list. They have to get permission from a guardian to travel as well.

7:48-They arrive for their trip. They learn their destination is near Mount Songni in Boeun.

12:45- Luggage check. Before school trips in Korea, teachers check the student’s bags to make sure they have what they need and to especially make sure they have no contraband.

16:11- Suddenly they are told to look behind them at the flags and a whistle is blown! The race is on! The flags are numbered 1-5. It's a loyalty race…They will do everything all day long in the order of the flag they got.

  1. Dindin

  2. Junghoon

  3. Inwoo

  4. Seyoon

  5. Jongmin

Then they set off toward their destination while discussing their order. That discussion is quickly abandoned in favor of a music and in-your-seat dance party.

Breakfast Loyalty Game (24:01- 49:21)

The members arrive at a rest stop. They get $30 and 20 minutes to have their loyalty breakfast. The members exit the bus in order and only one at a time. At the end of the 20 minutes, the bus will leave. At four minutes per member and $6 per member…I wonder if you can guess how many ate and if the bus left anyone behind.

43:04- Restroom Stop. There is no stop for the next hour, so they’re given 5 minutes to take a bathroom break. The members were super paranoid about it.

Car Mission: Loyalty Sit Ups (49:21- 1:05:30)

To travel around on their trip, they have the option of a new spacious car or a smaller old car. To decide which car they’ll use, they do a loyalty sit up game. The members will take turns holding each other’s legs as they do sit ups. The goal is 100 sit ups in 2 minutes.

They drive to the next destination in this segment.

Math Zipline (1:05:30 of episode 130- 10:00 of episode 131)

They play a game for $15 to buy drinks. They have 5 ‘courses’ to choose from on a zipline course: 4 ziplines and one suspension bridge. They each choose one and then head out. The first member is given a math problem (6x7). That answer is passed on to the next person who then gets an instruction ( ÷2). The answers are passed on from member to member as the starting point of their own math problem. The last member must give a correct answer to the math zipline chain in order for the group to win.

Dinner Game (10:00- 38:57)

The members start with free time where they play the pop-up pirate game and give penalty forehead flicks.

16:35 - Game Begins. The members have to play 10 rounds of a quiz game where they must each give a different correct answer to a quiz question such as “Name a capital city”. In each round, there is a regular (winning) menu and a penalty menu. If they ALL succeed in giving a correct answer, they will get the regular menu dish for that round. After all the rounds, they will again use the loyalty order to go up and fill their plate with food…and ALL the food must be eaten.

Dinner 28:45

Sleeping Game (38:57- 1:08:50)

Rather than a sleeping indoors/outdoors game, all the members will be sleeping indoors. That keeps the theme of a school trip. However, they play two games to switch their loyalty order. The winner of each will get the option to change their number.

Game 1 - 40:05. Stacked pillow fight. The members kneel on a stack of pillows and then have a pillow fight. The member who knocks the other member off their stack wins. For this game, they play in reverse loyalty number order, which means the members with numbers 4 or 5 would have to win 3 times in order to get the chance to change numbers.

Game 2 - 48:46. Red Light, Green Light Obstacle Course Escape. The members have to complete 3 tasks in order to escape and win the game. First they must dress up (wearing a sparkly jacket, pants, and using mousse combed into their hair). Then they will choose and completely finish a random cup with a snack in it (some are easy, some are not). Finally, they must escape the room and choose a cup of water to completely finish. Half of the water cups are salt water. The winner of the previous game does the Red Light, Green Light (Rose of Sharon) game to add a challenge. If they’re caught moving, they must move all the way back to the beginning.

Love Candles - 1:04:44. The members light a candle for the person next to them while giving a word of love or encouragement. The members’ focus was shot…hilarious.

Morning Mission (1:08:50 of episode 131- 7:38 of episode 132)

The morning mission was to NOT have any marker on your face when you get up. The members with numbers 1, 2, and 3 were given markers. The other two members would have to steal a pen in order to get the top three.

Beopju Temple Hike - start of ep. 132. After walking to the temple, they roll a die to determine how many people they have to have in their ‘school trip commemorative photo’.

Preview: Beat the Heat….with Heat Trip. The members are going to try to avoid getting stuck with items that will only make the summer heat worse on this next trip. Fur lined jackets or personal fans…we’ll find out who has the best summer luck!

Dindin gets coffee and a chicken skewer $9v

Junghoon gets coffee.

Inwoo gets coffee and orders for the member after him. So sweet.

Seyoon gets the ramyeon Inwoo order…and time runs out so the bus leaves him behind.

Seyoon agrees to trade numbers with Jongmin (4-5) in exchange for Jongmin paying for a taxi to unstrand him, but he’s out of the taxi service area, so he ends up hitching a ride with someone he finds at the rest stop that’s heading in the same direction and switching to a taxi for the last leg.

Loyalty Sit Ups

They succeed (barely) in getting the 100 sit ups in two minutes, so they can take the new, spacious car.

Dindin is correct.

The members buy their drinks in order. Seyoon is last and only gets 50 cents. The coffee shop worker agrees to flip the coin. If he wins he keeps the coin. If not, Seyoon gets a small amount of coffee. Seyoon gets the drink and gives the barista the 50 cents.

Game 1- Pillow Fight- I’ll leave the exact order of knockouts off here and you can take guesses. The final winner was….Junghoon. He trades his number 2 for number 3 (Inwoo).

Game 2- Red Light, Green Light Obstacle Course Escape. Jongmin wins the first round. He trades his number 5 for number 2 (Inwoo). Dindin wins the second round. He chooses to stay with his number 1.

Morning Mission

Dindin and Junghoon get breakfast. Everyone else had marker on their faces.

At the temple, they rolled a 100, so they had to gather a lot of people. In the end, they even had to grab staff members to get to the goal.
