Variety Review: 2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 103 pt 1- Taste of Mokpo trip
*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 5 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Taste of Mokpo trip
My Entertainment Score: overall 7 out 10 laughs
Episode 103 pt 1 was a 7 for me. I really enjoyed the one game that was played.
Episode 104 was a 7 for me.
Episode 105 was a 7 for me.
What Happened:
Opening (31:15 of ep 103- 46:05)
The members arrive excitedly in Mokpo which is known as a place for gourmets. To fit the theme, they invited a guest who is known to be a food master: Girl’s Day’s Hyeri.
They will be playing in three teams of two. Hyeri is given the opportunity to arrange the teams. Jongmin and Junghoon are a team. Hyeri and Seyoon are a team. Dindin and Ravi are a team.
Breakfast Game: Don’t Be Intimidated (46:05- end of ep 103)
Everyone walks along the beach to their first location, where they discover they will be eating Panther Pufferfish Soup. Or rather…one team will be getting that dish.
The game they play for breakfast is one that has been played on Running Man before. A water balloon is hung above one member of each team. There are 10 layers of balloons. The team member that isn’t in danger, takes a knife and tries to cut only one layer of balloon at a time. It is played in rounds and the last team standing wins.
Game (55:08- ) Ravi, Seyoon, and Junghoon are sitting in the danger zone.
Breakfast (1:07:14- end of ep 103) There is one scene from the previous trip in here because the penalty for the last mission was to make food that is served with this meal.
Lunch Game (start of ep 104- 55:29)
Travel (start of ep 104- 14:16) The members take a car to a new location, Sihwa Alley. They are allowed to freely explore the area. Hyeri asks for a team change so that she can have Ravi take her sightseeing pictures for her. Seyoon is paired with Jongmin and Dindin is paired with Junghoon.---Guess who took the longest to make it back to the meeting point? haha.
Alley Mission Explanation (14:16- 1:01:51) At random, each team takes an envelope that contains a mission. They must complete their mission and return the fastest. Only the fastest team gets to each lunch.
Mission 1: Wear a uniform from a store in the area and then find and take photos with 3 ‘animals’ in the area: a large stuffed bear, a rabbit cut-out at a photo spot, and dun dun duuuuun an actual cat that roams around the village.
Mission 2: Find 3 signs that tell the local dialect for specific phrases and memorize the phrases. They must both correctly write them in order to pass the mission.
Mission 3: Find a ddakji mural and play a round of ddakji in front of it. They must bring back the ‘king’ ddakji.
Game (16:19- 31:26)
Lunch (31:26- 55:29)
55:29- Free dessert hit or miss game.
Dinner Game (1:01:59- 28:30 of ep 105)
Hyeri changes partners again to Dindin. Ravi and Jongmin are partnered, so Seyoon and Junghoon are partners. They then travel to a new location.
2 teams will get to eat this meal. The name of the game is Ring My Bell (one of the famous songs from Girl’s Day). Members will play one at a time and the team member’s scores will be combined. Each member will jump through 3 rings (hula hoops) in succession from a low height to a higher one. Each ring has 20 balloons lining the inside and the members have to wear a sandpaper suit. The team with the least popped balloons at the end gets to eat.
Game (1:14:25- 12:34 of ep 105)
Dinner (12:34- 21:30)
Free Time (21:30- 28:30) –Karaoke, arm wrestling, thigh wrestling.
Midnight Snack Game (28:30- 1:02:10)
The members, with much fear and trembling, travel a long way on the bus. At the end of the road, they find a cart bar!
In order to have the snacks there, they must play the “Answer in Order” game. Each member must give a correct answer, in turn, to a question within 3 seconds. Each time they do, they earn a snack. There are only 5 questions!
Game (42:29- 50:40)
Snack Time (50:40- 1:02:10)
Morning Mission (1:02:10- end of episode)
To determine who gets a special breakfast, the members will play Dibi Dibi Dip, which is a lot like rock, paper, scissors, but it is played with full body poses and the goal is simply not to match the other person. The members play against the ‘delivery man’ and the 3 members that last the longest get breakfast.
Game (1:08:10- 1:13:00)
Breakfast (1:13:00- end of episode)
Preview: New Year Planning Trip: the value of money. It looks like the members are going to earn in-show money, greedily spend it, and then learn that perhaps saving was a better plan. Let’s see how it goes.
