Variety Review: 2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 111- 113 pt. 1 Real Winter Training Trip
*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
****WELCOME TO NA INWOO!!! This young, acclaimed actor is joining the cast as a regular member. We’re excited to get to know him.****
This Trip’s Theme: Real Winter Training
My Entertainment Score: overall 9 out 10 laughs
Episode 111 was a 10 for me. One fast game and still one of the funniest episodes ever.
Episode 112 was an 8 for me. The real winter training is always on the tough side and this was no different, but I enjoyed the differentness of the games on the episode. I also enjoyed watching our new member being excited about the games.
Episode 113 pt. 1 was a 9 for me. There were several touching moments in the episode as the crew finished up their first trip together.
What Happened:
Episode 111
I debated long and hard about how to cover this episode and…there’s no way to do it without major spoilers other than this…sorry. This episode begins with the members gathering and discovering that the theme of the trip is the third Real Winter Training. BUM BUM BUUUMMM. This is the hardest trip all year, so they’re understandably scared. They are told they will head off to the base camp two at a time (except the first person who will go alone) and their order of departure will be determined by a game of alkkagi- stone flicking game where the goal is to knock the other person’s stones off the board. Throughout the game, the show flashes to our new member to follow his trek to the base camp. The members set off…and I cannot say more. Watch the episode. It’s 100% worth it.
Lunch Game (start of ep. 112- 32:56)
In a kind of gorilla welcome, the game completely relies on Inwoo. He must light a fire, survival style within 100 seconds for the team to get combat rations. If he fails, no one eats. The other members have a chance to teach him the method they learned at the last Winter Training. Do you think they remembered the trick to lighting a fire with gum wrapper and battery?
Dinner Game (32:56- 59:11)
The members were given 15 minutes to literally dig up their dinner. The staff had buried ingredients for the members to find in a marked square of land. The members were allowed to enter one at a time to dig. They could switch as often as they liked. For the last minute, all 6 of them could dig.
44:50- Making and eating dinner
Sleeping Game (59:11- 11:33 of episode113)
Inwoo got to choose the teams, so he chose to do the YB (Dindin, Ravi, Inwoo) vs OB team (Junghoon, Jongmin, Seyoon).
For this game, each team had to complete 3 laps. For each lap, a different member of the team would have to hang from a pole carried by the other two as if some native hunters were carrying back a boar after a hunt. The YB team went first and the OB team went second.
Sleeping (start of ep 113- 11:33)
Morning Mission (11:33- 36:17)
Each team had to get all their things packed up and carried back to the start where trucks waited in 20 minutes. If either team failed to make it in 20 minutes, none of them would get breakfast. Instead, they would have to help the staff pack up all the equipment used this trip. On the other hand, if they made it, all of them would get to eat a nice warm breakfast in a heated room before heading home.
21:35 - Payment for chances in the lunch game. Poor guys. This looked torturous.
27:49- Breakfast…spoilers, kinda, sorry.
Preview: Geoje is Warm and Filling Trip! The members are promised a relaxing trip with plenty of food after their hard Winter Training Trip last time. Will this trip be as advertised?
*****SPOILERS*****
Alkkagi Results
Junghoon sets out first.
Seyoon and Dindin set out second.
Ravi and Jongmin set out last.
*The new member was meant to be waiting at the base camp so that they could meet him nicely and have time to get used to each other…but Inwoo…hahahahhaha…crossed a mountain and had to be rescued. I’m so looking forward to him as a member.*
Lunch Game
After a failed attempt, Inwoo bargained for another chance in exchange for taking a plunge in an icy river. That chance also failed, so Ravi was volunteered as the sacrifice for another chance. That also failed and Dindin volunteered for the next chance. Thank goodness, he made it that time. They were able to eat a nice lunch.
Dinner Games
The members found several items including meat and were able to make a delicious looking feast.
Sleeping Game
Team OB won and got to sleep in the tent. It wasn’t even close!
Morning Mission
The younger members raced ahead with their things and then returned to help the others. They just barely made it in time (19 minutes 38 seconds) and were able to have a warm breakfast together in a heated room. I think the new member is meshing well with the others. I have high hopes!
Ravi, Dindin, and Inwoo did their ice plunge payment before they all headed inside.
