My Kpop Bias for Girl Groups (Active)

My Kpop Bias for Girl Groups (Active)

This was originally going to be a single article encompassing all girl groups both active and disbanded, then I realized I’ve been in kpop for 10 years and didn’t want to write the second largest article in the site’s history as a weekend bonus article. I am not doing literally every active group, just every group I have a strong enough opinion on. I am doing this in alphabetical order, so if there is a certain group you’re curious about, you can find it quickly, if I didn’t do a group, feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll answer as best as I can.

Aespa- Karina

Karina is one of the greatest idols of all time for me already, I think she is the complete package, personality, talent, visuals. On top of that she is the leader of the group and I think has even more to show in the future.

Apink- Chorong

Chorong just clicked for me back in the Mr. Chu era and I never stopped biasing her since, my original Apink biases were Bomi and Eunji. Also, this is another leader, will this be a consistent trend?

Cherry Bullet- Remi

I have no dedication to any one bias for Cherry Bullet, as a casual fan my bias shifts with comebacks. I switched to Remi during Love So Sweet and it stuck because I didn’t care for Love In Space.

Cignature- Jeewon

I watched most of Cignature’s content at debut and Jeewon was a standout to me from that. Also, she’s the leader again, that’s 75%!

WJSN- Luda

I’m honestly triple biased in WJSN between Bona, Luda, and Yeoreum, so I just picked who the highest of the 3 is currently. Luda has also been a leader of Chocome, so, it counts?

Dreamcatcher- Jiu

I actually was a Yoohyeon bias until I saw Dreamcatcher live and instantly switched to Jiu, she is a fantastic performer. One of the coolest things about Jiu recently, is that she wrote a whole song about her dog for their last album, respect the animal love.

Everglow- Sihyeon

While not originally Everglow’s leader, she did take that role before First promotions, so here we are. I really like Sihyeon’s vocals and performance quality, I think she would have been great in a 3rd gen group like Twice too, despite being a slayer in Everglow’s style.

Fanatics- Doi

Doi seems really sweet and kind, and Fanatics company seems really awful and mean. The contrast is appalling. I’ve biased Doi since Sunday and will continue to do so until the group disbands officially or she leaves officially.

Fromis_9- Jiwon

Speaking of idols that would have been great in Twice, Jiwon failed to get into the group during Sixteen, and that’s JYP’s loss. She has a strong personality and is a ridiculously good singer, I actually think she would have rounded out twice really well. That said, I’m happy she’s in Fromis, the group clicks with me more musically than Twice does.

SNSD- Tiffany

Tiffany is tons of fun, she’s got a really great personality and presence and seems pretty chill. Her music on the solo level is also interesting, not always to my taste, but always fun to experience.

GWSN- Minju

I’m pretty Anne dual biased here, but Minju left a strong impression on me during the reddit AMA that GWSN did. She just spoke in a way that clicked with me, despite the fact that she was the only member that didn’t speak in English and I had to rely on translations for.

Itzy- Yezi

Man, I don’t know where I stand with Itzy, I’ve thought every member was my bias at one point or another, maybe I’m just quintuple biased? Yezi feels right for me right now, but this can very easily change during the next comeback.

Ive- Gaeul

Another group where I’m dual biased, Yujin being the other. Gaeul is super entertaining with a slightly off sense of humor that is absolutely to my taste. I also think she’s got a strong visual presence despite being one of the smallest members of the group.

Le Sserafim- Kazuha

I’m fully on board the Kazuha hype train, she’s so amazing to watch dance, her ballerina coloring to the moves is super unique and interesting. She also has a pretty interesting vocal color that I think comes from not really being a singer, so I’m curious to see how she develops.

Lightsum- Nayoung

She’s got pink hair, I always like the members with pink hair. I wish I had a reason why or a general explanation beyond that, but pink hair just draws my eye, it’s how Bona got my attention during As You Wish for WJSN as well.

Loona- Haseul

I’ve always been high on Haseul, despite the fact that BBC really gives her as few lines as possible despite her fantastic singing voice. Her presence definitely felt missed during her hiatus and it’s great having her back.

Loona 1/3- Haseul

I usually don’t do subunits but I really see Loona as separate units more than I do with normal groups. Obviously this one would be Haseul since I have her marked as my overall bias.

Loona Odd Eye Circle- Kim Lip

The strongest group overall for me, all 3 members are in my top 7 of Loona biases. Kim Lip is a great singer, and a memorable performer in most songs for me. Eclipse was also my favorite solo when I initially started getting into Loona.

Loona yyxy- Olivia Hye

Ask me a few months ago and I would have said Gowon, but Olivia has really started to stand out more and more to me. What Olivia brings is incredibly strong performances, and her energy is fantastic, she still has room to grow and improve too, so she has a bright future ahead of her.

Majors- Bian

Bian was my ANS bias, and now she’s my Majors bias. She stands out above the rest in every performance and song with her nice lower register and strong visual and dancing profile.

Mamamoo- Wheein

Wheein was not my bias before the solo days of Mamamoo, but the more time that passed, the more she climbed above people until finally getting past Moonbyul for first. She has such an amazingly pleasant voice to listen to in any style, and she isn’t afraid to try different styles and tones, which makes her so much fun to hear.

Oh My Girl- Arin

Probably the most improved idol in the whole article, she started out as one of the weakest members in Oh My Girl as a singer and dancer, but in the last few years she’s settled herself in the middle of the pack. Put that improvement on one of the strongest visuals in 3rd gen with a solid personality to boot, and you’ve got a winner. My bias was Mimi prior to Nonstop.

Purple Kiss- Yuki

I didn’t have an opinion on Purple Kiss at first, but then Zombie happened and I questioned how I hadn’t noticed Yuki more. She’s got a really cool voice and incredible charisma, I think she’s a really important part of the Purple Kiss equation that has launched them to being so respected despite being so new.

Red Velvet- Wendy

A lot of the older groups I’ve mentioned bias swapping at some point, but for Red Velvet, I have never changed biases, it has always been Wendy. She is so funny and has a great personality, and then you hear her sing and she’s one of the best female vocalists in the entire industry. She hits insane highs with incredible levels of control across her whole range, while still having tons of vocal color and personality unlike somebody such as f(x) Luna who, while technically impressive, just doesn’t have that same level of emotion.

Rocket Punch- Yeonhee

We went far too long without a leader, but Yeonhee is here to bring back the trend. I was a little dual biased for a while between Yeonhee and Yunkyoung, but Yeonhee firmly holds the spot for me currently. She’s an all rounder, but stands out to me as a leader. We've seen the massive effort she puts in behind the scenes for the group and the members and it’s really admirable to me. From arranging formations for dance covers to helping Juri with her Korean lessons, Yeonhee seems like what a great kpop leader should aspire to be.

Stayc- J

I’m recently dual biased with Isa taking up the second spot, but J has been at the top since the start, so she gets the shout for the article. It should be pretty easy to see why anybody would bias J, her vocals are so cool, not just rapping, but singing too. She’s got a really unique range and tone, and is pretty stable in it too. Very happy that her company doesn’t force her to go high.

Twice- Nayoung

I’ve swapped biases between Nayoung and Sana for the last 7 years, but Nayoung has settled down as the number one since the English song era started. Nayoung is a complete package idol, vocals are incredible, dance holds up well, personality is fun, and her visuals are good and fairly unique.

Viviz- SinB

Gfriend will be in the disbanded group version of this article, and my bias is not a Viviz member. That said, SinB was always one of my favorites in Gfriend and seems at her best here. The difference is she felt like she held back in Gfriend vocally and more importantly, as a dancer, where her talent was clear despite her chronic underdancing. Unleashed SinB is a joy to watch as a performer, and I’m glad she seems so enthusiastic to reach her peaks now.

Weeekly- Jaehee

Monday is a close second, but Jaehee just landed my bias during After School, despite basically being unnoticed in their prior songs… maybe it was the pink hair?

Wooah- Nana

Speaking of all-rounders in the leader position, Nana is literally the best or second best member of her group in every objective category, dance, vocals, rap, visuals, and I don’t think that’s a particularly contested opinion. She has a beautiful vocal color both when singing and rapping, and is an entertaining personality on variety shows to boot, one of my favorite idols in 4th gen.
