*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Ramyeon Paradise trip
My Entertainment Score: overall out 10 laughs
Episode 86, part 2 was a 7 for me. A lot of this half-episode was banter and food. A quiz was the main ‘game’ of the episode and it was as funny as ever, but didn’t carry the episode as much as I would have liked.
Episode 87 was a 10 for me. Maybe it was a 9.5, actually. The morning mission wasn’t the best, but they kept it short and everything else about the episode was excellent. The games and ‘payment’ were everything I could have hoped for.
What Happened:
Opening (24:20 of episode 86- 32:33)
The members are told the theme of today’s trip and then they all travel together to the base camp for the trip!
Lunch Game (32:33- of episode 87)
Making selections (32-33- 45:10)
The members are told that they only have to put up a tent in order to get their breakfast ramyeon, but one by one, they are pulled aside and allowed to pick from a ramyeon menu. The menu is all inclusive. Not only are there different types of ramyeon, but also the many popular additives such as meat, eggs, veggies, and cheese.
The members will be told the cost of their order after they have finished making their selections. The cost will be paid for by the losers of the breakfast game...after they eat breakfast.
Lunch (45:10- 1:08:50)
There were some truly impressive selections made! The food was brought out one at a time as it was finished cooking. The cost of each meal was announced when it arrived, so all the members know who has created the most trouble in the payment department.
Payment (1:08:50- of episode 87)
To pay for their exorbitant ramyeon, three men who lose a game have to pick tomatoes that are in season in the area, then squeeze them into juice. Each glass of juice is worth $5.50.
The game for the morning is “Random Table Tennis”. Games will be played in pairs. The members choose a racket from: a water container, a ladle, dried pollack, a baby formula container, an iron pan!, and a pot lid. To decide who gets first pick, they have a ramyeon quiz. As a penalty for not finishing the ramyeon they ordered, some members were automatically pushed to the back for choices. One member got first pick for cleaning his bowl out so thoroughly.
Episode 86 ends with the members choosing their rackets. Episode 87 begins with the Random Table Tennis game. These were all funny.
23:23 of 87 starts the tomato picking section. They finished picking and returned to base camp to blend the tomatoes into juice….which is a worse prospect than they could have known. The blenders are run on bike power.
Dinner Game (36:33 of 87- 1:10:46)
Game Explanation (36:33- 39:53)
The game was played in 1 on 1 matches. Each member got their own bucket to stand in and a bowl to bail water out. For 1 minute, both members would simultaneously bail water out of their bucket and toward the other members. The member who ended with their water level closest to a preset line would win and get to have dinner.
The matches are Dindin vs. Seonho, Ravi vs. Seyoon, and Jongmin vs. Junghoon.
Game (39:53- 54:20)
As you can imagine, this turned into a dog fight pretty darn quick.
Dinner (54:20- 1:10:46)
Dinner is ‘Fine Dining Ramyeon’ prepared by the former head chef of a Michelin 5 star hotel. We get to watch him cook the special ramyeon and it looks absolutely spectacular, unlike any ramyeon dish I’ve ever seen before. He uses super expensive, high end ingredients and techniques and the winning members that get to eat the dish are overwhelmed by how good it is.
Sleeping (1:10:46- 1:12:49)
The members all camped out in the tent they built earlier...no indoor/outdoor game this week.
Morning Mission (1:12:49- end of episode 87)
Mission (1:12:49- 1:16:02)
The members each pick a ramyeon noodle out of a bowl. The member with the shortest strand will go to Seoul to have ramyeon with a special guest.
Breakfast Ramyeon (1:16:02- end of episode 87)
Preview: Summer Song Festival! A trip to beat the heat with a special guest singer!
