Variety Review: 2Days, 1Night, Season 4- Episode 101 pt 2- 103 pt 1 Odd One Out Trip
*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 5 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*
This Trip’s Theme: Odd One Out trip
My Entertainment Score: overall 9 out 10 laughs
Episode 101 pt 2 was an 8 for me.
Episode 102 was a 9 for me. There was a lot of meal time in this episode, but the members were really on their game and nothing lagged.
Episode 103 pt 1 was a 9 for me. I loved getting to know some of the staff and the game was full of surprises.
What Happened:
Opening (30:12 of ep 101- 47:50)
The members arrive at a Bamboo Garden. Suddenly a buzzer sounds and a flag drops that says “Race Start” along with an arrow pointing the way. THE MEMBERS RUN!
Along the way, they encounter obstacles.
35:46 The first obstacle course is to wear ‘mini-bamboo horses’, run to the next location and pop balloons with their new hoof-ey shoes. The bamboo horses are essentially a sliced cut of bamboo stalk about 2-3 inches thick. Rope is attached so that the member can stand on the round and pull the rope up to keep it flush to the bottom of their foot as they run...almost like a stilt.
38:21 The second obstacle course is to carry a water bucket to the next course. The buckets are randomly chosen and have either 0 kg, 3 kg, 6 kg, 9 kg or 12 kg of water in them.
**The water station has cups of regular water and salt water. haha.**
42:46 The third course is bamboo slingshots. The member must use a slingshot to shoot a can off the top of a bamboo stalk assigned to them.
Race Explanation (47:50- 56:36)
It turns out this whole crazy race was to determine who gets to choose their teammate first. The teams will be constantly changing throughout the day. The first place member and his teammate, as well as the Odd Man Out get to enjoy some bamboo snacks.
The first teams are (Ravi and Dindin), (Junghoon and Jongmin), and Seyoon is the odd man out
Lunch Game: English Speed Quiz (56:36- 21:59 of ep. 102)
First the members walk among the beautiful scenery to their next location.
One of the teams has to take the Odd Man Out. Seyoon chooses to join Jongmin and Junghoon. He does this before they know what the game is going to be.
Quiz (1:03:21- end of ep 101)
Lunch (start of ep 102- 21:59)
We get more English ‘conversation’ as they travel to the lunch location.
Dinner Game (21:59 of ep 102- end of ep 102)
First the members travel to their base camp. They use the ladder game to see who is teamed up and who is the odd man out for this game. The teams are Ravi and Junghoon, Seyoon and Dindin, and Jongmin is the odd man out.
For the dinner game, the odd man out has to play for both teams...therefore he is guaranteed to win and have dinner. However, the winning team members get to decide exactly which dishes the odd man out will be allowed to eat before the game begins. The odd man out will be told the two meal options he has, but not who is providing them.
Flying Odd One Out Basketball (44:20- 58:37)
Each member has two tries to make a basket. But it’s never that simple. They must run up a ramp, jump on a trampoline into a foam pit, and while in the air, shoot a basket among many in a line. The closest baskets are worth negative points and the farthest ones are worth as much as 50 points. The combined total of all the member’s scores will determine who gets dinner.
Dinner (58:37- end of episode 102)
The losing members play Song Relay to get better food from the winners.
Sleeping Game: Jegichagi (start of episode 103- 29:40)
For this game, the youngest member of each staff unit will pair up with one member and do the kicking for the member. The two members with the winning score will get to sleep indoors. The rest are camping! Random draws determine the pairs and the members take some time with their players to practice and train.
Sleeping (28:16- 29:40)
Morning Mission: RACE (29:40- 31:15) AND (1:07:42- 1:08:36)
The last 2 members to arrive will get a penalty. Their penalty is to make 130 servings of kkadugi.
They did not show the whole race and I wish they had.
Preview: A loveable trip with special guest Hyeri (Girl’s Day), the food fighter. Get ready to taste the dishes of Mokpo!
