Variety Review- 2 Days, 1 Night, Season 4- Episode 71

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*

****IMPORTANT NOTE! As summer approaches and I will have my kiddos home all day every day, I’m planning to restructure these reviews. I plan to put out ONLY ONE review per TRIP rather than per episode. This means you’ll get 1 review every 2-4 weeks depending on how the show structures everything. I will break down where each game is found by episode and time stamp. If you hate, hate, hate this idea, please leave a comment for me and I’ll see what I can do to accomodate.****

This Trip’s Theme: Wild Ginseng Expedition, Continued

My Entertainment Score: 9 out 10 laughs

What Happened:

Third Mission (opening- 22:45)

Explanation/Set up (opening- 2:41)

Bubble soccer. Bubble soccer. BUBBLE SOCCER! All three teams played at the same time. The three nets were set up in a triangle and the goal was to shoot into your own colored goal.

Game: BUBBLE SOCCER!!!!!! (2:41-16:22)

Oh! My! God! Please go watch this. You know the laughing til you’re crying emoji?….that was me. Thank you 2 Days 1 Night for doing this. I know the members were warm in the bubbles, but I got so much joy from you all!

Game MVP: Ravi. Humor MVP: Seonho.

Picking Puzzle Pieces/Changing Locations (16:22- 20:50)

They recap a little about what each team has earned from the previous week.

Fourth Mission: Dinner Mission (20:50-)

Explanation (20:50- 24:13)

Using the puzzle they have been completing (a map of a small section of mountain), the teams can send one member up at a time to search for the wild golden ginseng. They are allowed to switch searching members at any time. There are many fakes on the mountain.

Game (24:13- 34:32)

No team chose to switch members. The chorus of “I found it” echoing around the mountain over and over as the members found fake ginsengs was super funny. The editors also made up a little map showing the path that the members took in their search and that was funnier than it should have been too. A couple of those guys forgot about the map.

Dinner (34:32- 44:28)

Only winning team got to have flounder stew with mugwort. I have to admit that this one didn’t look appetizing to me, but they seemed to enjoy it. The losing teams were given meals made from Balsam Pear, which is good for health, but has a bitter taste.

Sleeping Missions (44:28- end of episode)

Explanation (44:28- 49:22) and (1:01:07- 1:02:30)

The member will play 2 games to decide who has to sleep at the peak of Mount Daebong after riding a monorail for 30 minutes in the dark to reach the peak. Each game will exempt one team from sleeping outdoors.

(47:30) The first game is a Memory Game called “. Like the ‘in my suitcase I packed’ game. Members will pick a dance move and point to another person. That person has to do the first dance move and then add one of their own. The next person will need to do both previous moves and then add another and so on until someone messes up. They allowed for bad dancing. The team with the last member standing would sleep indoors.

(1:01:07:) The second game is supposed to be about concentration. They called it ‘’. Only the two teams that lost the memory game had to play. A giant water balloon was suspended above a member sitting on a stool. He would hold the rope that suspended the balloon. He would then let go of the rope and grab it again, hopefully before the balloon touched the spikes on his special headband and popped. If he stopped the balloon before it popped and close enough that it was in the ‘safe’ zone, he passed and the team would not have to sleep outdoors.

Memory Game (49:22- 1:01:07)

This was adorable. Junghoon was so excited that he kept saying the wrong word to pass the game on to the next person. Dindin was trying to copy choreographies from famous/popular kpop songs. I DARE you to know what dance he was copying before he tells you.

Concentration Game (1:02:30- 1:09:55)

The members that participated in this all got water ballooned at least once and they had to make the safe zone bigger to end the game. It was funny.

Monorail Ride and Sleeping (1:09:55- end of episode)

This should not have been funny, but that monorail ride had some great moments.
