May 29 Running Man Episode 649 Review

Oh happy day! They’re playing games this week! Still no running, but this is a vast improvement over the episode themes that have dominated recently.

What Happened:

Theme: Imperial Scholar’s Charms Race

Opening/Guest Introductions (start of episode- 7:29)

Team Formation (7:29- 23:47)

The members have to fill out a form stating their good points. They will present these and the two (pre-selected) innkeepers, Jongkook and YeEun, will choose who to accept.

Jongkook: Kang Hoon, Jaesuk, Sechan

YeEun: Seokjin, Haha, Jihyo, Somin

Race Explanation (23:47- 25:48)

There is a hidden ‘impure scholar’ attempting to enter the royal academy. The members must discover this spy. The winning team of each game will get a hint about this hidden figure. If they can find the spy at the end of the day, the spy will get the punishment. If not, the other members will face punishment.

They also have to try to guess the characteristic that fits each member in order to get a prize. The options are “Dancer”, “Long Shadow”, “Dimples”, “Pretty Eyes”, “Lush Hair”, “Voice”, “Pure mindedness” and “Nice Legs”. Anyone that can correctly guess their own charm at the end of the day will get a prize.

First Mission: Rhythm Storytelling game (25:48- 40:16)

They called this something different: Joseon Strawberry Storytelling Game. The members are given a theme and a series of letters. They use a clap rhythm like the Strawberry Game. Within the beat, they must say a phrase related to the theme that begins with the correct letter. The team with the fewest mistakes wins.

Second Mission: Draw Your Own Matching Game (40:16- 1:09:09)

Except for one member on each team, the members of each team will take turns drawing the cards for a matching game. Each pair (one from each team) will get 20 seconds to draw the same word. Those two drawings will then go into a memory board game. The members that did not draw will then take turns flipping over two cards at a time until they find a matching set. They can then get a point for each match that can correctly identify the word for…because just findin the matching cards isn’t hard enough.

Third Mission: Soapy Flower Platform Photo Shoot (1:09:09- 1:22:12)

Love the soapy missions. Three large platforms (covered in a flower pattern) are set up around a mat which is covered in slippery, soapy water. As the music ends, the members must discover which platform is the target for that round’s photo shoot, climb the platform, and stay there until the photo is taken. Each member whose face (eyes, nose, and mouth) is visible will earn a point for their team.

Final Results (1:22:12- end of episode)

They begin by trying to guess which characteristic belongs to them. Every person chooses what they think is their charming point and then they are told if they were correct or incorrect. Those who are correct get this week’s prize of various food boxes.

They also have to guess who the impure scholar is.

The punishment this week is a water slap.

Preview: Running Man in the Philippines. The members travel to Manila where they get to hold a special concert for fans. It looks like they will also get to visit Manny Pacquaio.

Rhythm Storytelling Game

Jongkook’s team wins. They get a hint about the ‘impure scholar’ and choose not to switch any members.

“Dancer” is not on team Jongkook.

“Long Shadow” is not on Team YeEun.

Draw Your Own Matching Game

Jongkook’s Team wins round 1 BY A LANDSLIDE! Kang Hoon was incredible at guessing. WOW! They win round 2 in much the same way except Jaesuk is guessing.

Jongkook’s team gets a second hint about the spy. They choose to send Kang Hoon to the other team and take Somin and YeEun to their team.

“Pretty Eyes” is not on team Jongkook (before the team changes).

“Lush Hair” is on team YeEun (before the team changes).

Soapy Flower Platform Photo Shoot

Jongkook’s Team wins again.

Jongkook’s Team gets another hint. They choose to take back Kang Hoon and send Somin back to team YeEun.

“Dimples” is not on Jongkook’s Team (before the team changes).

“Pretty Eyes” is not on YeEun’s Team (before the team changes).

Final Results

Characteristics:

Seokjin: Voice - Incorrect. Nice Legs was correct.

Jaesuk: Dance - Incorrect. Long shadow was correct.
