2 Days 1 Night Season 4- Episode 63 Review

*2 Days, 1 Night is a show where 6 regular cast members take themed trips around Korea to show off its charms. Each trip has a theme designed to highlight an area or else to create cohesion for the games they play. The general formula for a trip is a lunch game, a dinner game, and a sleeping inside or outside game. Half of the members (in teams or as individuals) will win lunch. The same will be true of dinner and the right to sleep inside instead of in a tent. Trips often cover several episodes.*

This Trip’s Theme: Time Travelers, Continued

My Entertainment Score: 7 out 10 laughs

This week had several fun games and wrapped up in a touching (and funny) way. It was worth the time. The wrap up tied the theme of the whole trip up beautifully.

What Happened

**As a reminder, the teams from last week are Team Inadequacy: Seonho, Jongmin, and Seyoon and Team Less Inadequate: Jonghoon, Dindin, and Ravi. The team names are a running joke from episode 34 where the members were asked to show their strong or weak points and then overcome the weaknesses they provided.**

Prehistoric Age (start of show- 18:26)

Entering the Prehistoric Age Site (start- 3:13)

The next visit on their time travels in Seokjangni Remains, which is the site of a Paleolithic house around which a museum has been built. Their time travel guide was there, but alas, his mask had no fake beard and mustache attachments. Still, he worked hard “wooga”ing his instructions and introduction

Game: Lucky House Fish Hunt (3:13- 18:26)

There are 4 huts. Each hut has a (fake) fish placed on a plate just inside the door. The teams will take turns trying to snatch the fish, one member at a time. If they successfully snatch a fish, that member can attempt another snatch. The other team will be hiding in two of the houses (two members in one hut and the last member in another) and can grab or stop a member that enters the hut to snatch a fish. That would end that member’s run and all the huts would be reset with fish. This means that a member could, in theory, get 4 fish scored for their team if they were fast enough and a team could, in theory, get 12 fish as a score.

Modern Age: 2021 (18:27- 45:53)

Dinner Announcement and Game Explanation (18:27- 22:09)

The dinner is going to be something that has been eaten throughout the ages: meat! Specifically, it will be “the Ultimate Pork Barbeque”. To get the feast, they must have the most hourglasses at the end of the game.

The winner of the game will get the option to switch hourglasses with the other team. The game is “Flipping a Ddakji”. For those who don’t know, a ddakji is a pair of papers folded into a cube, origami style. One side is marked, in this case with stickers, and the goal of the game is to flip the other team’s ddakji over to its unmarked side by throwing your ddakji down onto it as hard as you can. The recoil makes the ddakji bounce up and flip. There will be only 1 round!

Making Ddakji (22:09-27:50)

Team Inadequacy knew how to make ddakji, but Team Less Inadequate did not. This resulted in a long session of paper folding that should not have been entertaining, but was.

Team Inadequacy made a monster sized ddakji in the end. Team Less Inadequate even ran over their ddakji with a car! In ddakji, a more tightly built ddakji is harder to flip because it doesn’t easily bounce up.

Game: Flipping a Ddakji (27:50- 38:50)

Junghoon threw for Team Less Inadequate most of the time with Ravi giving him breaks for some rounds. Jongmin began as the thrower for Team Inadequacy, but Seonho took over when he got tired.

This battle was intense, considering they were throwing around paper. The crew even had to move all the cameras and sound equipment back and one point because the game had travelled too close.

Dinner (38:51- 45:53)

Everyone ate well, though Seyoon was sad that he agreed to give up pork belly meat for 3 months. The losing team was given vegetables to grill for dinner, so even they were satisfied by their meal.

Sleeping Indoors/Outdoors Games (45:54- 1:08:09)

**The members chatted briefly before the game explanations began.**

Game Explanation (47:09- 47:25)

The teams will play three games that the staff labeled Three Games for Time in order to fit the time travel theme. It will be played as a best two out of three. The last game had a HUGE set thing leaning against the wall that the members found ominous.

First Game: Time Flies (47:25- 54:53)

One team will be protecting a basket filled with bouncy balls by having one member stand on a chair that is over the basket. That member swings around a rope that has a...flour bomb, for lack of a better word, on the end of it. The other team will, one at a time, try to steal balls from the basket while avoiding being hit by the flour. When a member is hit, the next member immediately begins their attempt.

Team Inadequacy started as the defensive team with Seonho swinging the flour. Seonho had a little trouble with balancing on the chair and stamina for the full time, so Jongmin swapped in for him.

Dindin was practicing the swinging and hit a staff member. They trusted Ravi to do the swinging after that. Jonghoon swapped in for him in the middle too.

Second Game: Pull the Time (54:53- 1:08:09)

I am going to try this game! Two rolls of toilet paper are set up. They are unrolled to a certain length and a glass full to the brim with water is placed on the end. Two members will race to roll up the toilet paper, pulling the glass closer. If they are too fast or unstable in their pulling, the glass will drip water and the toilet paper will tear before they reach the finish line. In the case of broken toilet paper, whichever glass made it farther is the winner.

I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it looked like a ton of fun and had way more tension than I expected.

--Not really a spoiler, but one team won both those games so there was no third game.--

Time Capsule Mail From Last Year (1:08:09- end of show)

The members wrote letters to themselves, the members, and staff last year. The letters were put in a special red mail box that the staff kept for one year. The members pulled out and read each other’s letters.

This was adorable, touching, and sometimes silly. I don’t know how long any of you have been watching the show, but I’ve been following this season since episode 1. It has been amazing watching this team grow and grow closer as time has gone on. These letters were a great reflection of how far they have come even in one year together.

--They didn’t show the sleeping indoors/outdoors or a morning mission, but nothing about that came out in the preview either, so we’ll have to wait and see on that I guess.--

Preview- Taste Special: The Taste of Nature. The members are shown having a meal, but then an alarm blares and Ravi is carried out and driven away!! What will they have to do to save Ravi??

!!!Spoilers!!!

Lucky House Fish Hunt

Team Less Inadequate:

Dindin is caught by Seonho immediately.

Ravi picked an empty hut and got 1 fish. On his second run, he was caught by Seonho.

Jonghoon picked an empty hut and got 1 fish. On his second run, he was caught by Seonho! Seriously, Seonho, HOW?

Team Inadequacy:

Seyoon picked an empty hut and got 1 fish. On his second run, he was caught by Junghoon and Dindin.

Jongmin picked an empty hut and got 1 fish. On his second run, he was caught by Ravi.

Seonho picked an empty hut and got 1 fish, making a second run unnecessary.

Team Inadequacy wins 3:2.

**Seyoon picked 6 hourglasses bringing the total for the team up to 11**

***Note: I was mistaken about the hourglass totals in my last article. Seonho earned 3, not 1 after his lunch game against Dindin, so they had 5, not 3, hourglasses at the end of last episode. I have no idea what happened in my brain.**

Flipping a Ddakji

After an intense back and forth, Seonho was able to flip Team Less Inadequate’s ddakji. Team Inadequacy wins, thanks again to Seonho!

**They choose not to switch bags...cuz they’re not stupid, haha...and get the Pork Barbeque dinner.**

Sleeping Indoors/Outdoors Games

Time Flies

Team Less Inadequate gets 8 balls.

Dindin and Ravi got out immediately with 0 balls. Jonghoon did all the work.

Team Inadequacy gets 2 balls.

Seyoon and Jongmin got out immediately with 0 balls.

**Team Less Inadequate wins the first game!**

Pull the Time

Round 1: Jongmin hurries and spills water. The toilet paper breaks. Ravi is farther.

Ravi beats Jongmin. 1 point to Team Less Inadequate.

Round 2: Dindin went too fast and his toilet paper was broken. Seonho was behind, but passed.

Seonho beats Dindin. 1 point to Team Inadequacy.

Round 3: They both cross the finish line, but Junghoon is faster.

Junghoon beats Seyoon. 1 point to Team Less Inadequate.

**Team Less Inadequate wins the second game!**

**Team Less Inadequate gets to sleep indoors without playing the third game.**
