Variety Review: Running Man Episode 606-607

Variety Review: Running Man Episode 606-607

Guests: Hur Youngji (actress, singer-formerly of Kara), Jo Seho (comedian)

My Entertainment Score: 5 out of 10 laughs

Episode 606 was a 6 for me. Most of the games were actually pretty great. The quiz got so heated that I was a bit uncomfortable and that went on for quite a while.

Episode 607 was a 4 for me. It wasn’t bad and it definitely had its moments, but these stock market games remind me of my least favorite classes in college. *shudders*

What Happened

Theme: Wallstreet Dreams

Opening/Guest Introductions (start of episode- 12:50)

Seho is such a good sport.

Race Explanation (12:50- 13:22)

The members are going to do a race like the stock market race last year. Before that they are having “conferences” to learn more about the market. The winners of those games get coins that can be used to buy hints in the stock market race.

First Mission: Empty Head Team Quiz Battle (13:22- 50:32)

The top three members (Jaesuk, Jongkook, and Seokjin) are the tutors for the other 6 members. Jaesuk tutors Sechan and Seho. Jongkook tutors Jihyo and Haha. Seokjin tutors Somin and Youngji. At the end of a set study time, a quiz is given. The team will get one point if only one student gets the correct answer, but 3 points when both students get the answer right. The team with the most points wins.

Study Time (17:05-25:42) They have 20 minutes.

Quiz (25:42- 50:32) They get so heated…and by they, I mean the tutors.

Second Mission: What Image  (50:32- 1:07:20)

Another twist on the rhythm games. Each round has a category (the name of one of the members). One member will start by calling on a member and giving a number between 1-4 (the number of beats available is 4). The person called has to say a characteristic or something related to the category, on beat, the number of times called. So if the category was Jihyo and Jaesuk started, he might call “Sechan, 3”. Sechan would then have to keep the four beat by saying “*pause* actress, actress, actress” and then he could make the next call.

This is always one of my favorite games. It’s so messy and random because several of them are terrible at it.

This was played in two teams with the guests as the leaders:

Youngji Team: Sechan, Somin, Jihyo, Seokjin

Seho Team: Jongkook, Jaesuk, Haha

Lunch (1:07:20- 1:10:10)

*And now a break for our sponsors*

Third Mission: Moving Camera Mission (1:10:10- 1:24:13)

Throwback back to the early years, anyone? This was played in several rounds with different teams for each round. The members were given an either/or question to form teams each time. Teams would take turns trying to get their faces in the camera frame at the end of a countdown. Of their eyes, nose, and lips, 2 had to be showing for it to count as in frame.

Transition to Next Episode (1:24:13 of 606- 6:05 of 607)

The members “travel” to New York for a stock investment bonanza. They each begin with $500 to trade with. 2014-2022. 20 minutes = 1 year. Clues are in English for 1 point. 3 points for the same clue in Korean.

Fourth Mission: Stock Market Challenge (6:05- 1:21:48)

As with the stock market game from last year, it would be no fun for anyone for me to chronicle all the stock market numbers and the purchases of each member.

Halftime Game: You Insulted Me (42:12- 51:45)

Each member has a turn being essentially roasted. The other members write or draw something that would insult whoever's turn it is. The insulted member ranked the insults and points were awarded based on those ranks. The most insulting person got coins to use for clues.

Final Results (1:21:48- end of episode)

The top two got prime steak from America for winning. The last place person had to write an apology letter…in English, because themes.

Preview: none shown, but I’m behind, so I can tell you….Next episode the Running Man team will have a race to celebrate the new SBS building. It's a flexible work hours/work-life balance race!
