**Note: News came out that Kwangsoo will be retiring from the show. I don’t know when they’ll film his last episodes, but it wasn’t yet mentioned in the show. Prepare your hearts for a whole new dynamic.**
Guests: Lee Yongjin (comedian and singer), Sung Sikyung (ballad singer)
My Entertainment Score: 8 out 10 laughs
I was prepared for this episode to be a very low score for me because I expected another dating concept episode, but the theme was loosely followed, so there wasn’t a huge amount of awkwardness. Some of the games were incredibly funny and the guests were great participants.
What Happened:
Theme: Find the Ladies’ Ideal Type
Opening and Guest Introductions (start of episode- 10:20)
The gentlemen enter first and greet the guests. The overall game is explained. The two guests are the ‘CEO’s for two marriage matching agencies. They are able to give job ranks to each of the members in their company at any time, from managing director down to intern. A member can be promoted or demoted at any time during the day. The lowest member on the winning team will not get the prize at the end of the day.
Teams:
1: Sikyung, Jongkook, Sechan, Kwangsoo
2: Yongjin, Jaesuk, Seokjin, Haha
The ladies are revealed to be the clients for whom the two teams will need to find an ideal type. After each round, the ladies will rate the service of each company and award points. The company with the most points at the end of the day will get gold as a prize.
First Round: Avatar Blind Date (10:20- 33:50)
The guests go have lunch, like a blind date, with the ladies. The twist? They have an earpiece in and have to do whatever their ‘employees’ tell them to do while on the date. They were supposed to be figuring out what the ladies liked, but it quickly devolved into nonsense. I laughed, a lot. Poor Sikyung.
31:41- The ladies gave out 1 point to whomever they felt did best on the avatar blind date.
Second Round: Green Light Game (33:50- 48:33)
Free Time Lunch (33:50- 37:36)
The CEO’s did some promoting and demoting. They also were a little ridiculous with each other.
Green Light Game (37:36- 47:36)
I found this super amusing and incredibly pointless. They were given a scenario (written by a fan in real life) and had to debate the merits and disadvantages to decide how the woman should proceed. The members gave their opinions without any thought to teams, so it wasn’t an us vs. them situation most of the time. After they finished, they were able, individually, to push a button to give her the go-ahead on what she wanted to do in her relationship. Having decided that, the ladies were able to give three stickers out based on what people said during the debate. They were allowed to give stickers to both teams or just one as they chose.
Results (47:36- 48:33)
The ladies handed out the point stickers.
Third Round: Relationship Balance Game (48:33- 1:06:34)
Explanation (48:33- 50:30)
The staff gathered up mentions from each woman of their “ideal type”. They will pick at random, one member of the running men and one ‘ideal type’. The teams have to give those picks adjectives to make the decision between them as difficult as possible. For instance: billionaire Seokjin vs jobless bum Harrison Ford. They do four, 2 for each woman, and the team that creates the most difficult scenario in each round gets 1 point.
Relationship Balance Game (50:30- 1:06:34)
Boy, I sure disagreed with Somin and Jihyo’s choices on some of these. That said, some of the options that the guys came up with were creative and unexpected. This was a good time. I wouldn’t mind them doing a game like this again...particularly if they found a way to make it less personally insulting for the members.
Final Round: Become the Ideal Type (1:06:35- end of show)
Each lady will be given a scenario. Each team will, in turn, send out a representative to act out the ideal response to that situation according to what they have learned about the ladies’ preferences over the course of the game. After the 4 acting segments, the ladies will choose the team that is the ultimate winner for the day.
Some of this was awkward but funny. I enjoy watching these members commit to a character for a quick sketch.
Preview: Going Home Race, Read the Room---some of the members are going to get off work after half an hour or an hour, without an explanation of why. I can’t wait to see the rules that make this happen.
