Kwon Eun Bi- The Flash Album Review
I am always ecstatic to write about Eunbi, not only is she one of my favorite idols of all time, her music is consistently good, interesting and shockingly varied. Specifically it is marked with a flair for theatrics and performance augmented by her high quality, well-rounded talent. This gap between releases from her has been pretty torturous honestly, as she had so many releases last year that fans were completely spoiled. So, let’s find out how this album holds up.
The Flash
Eunbi just achieves musical drama like no other idol does right now, she has only got better at it since the disbandment of Iz*one too. This whole song has a building tension leading into the chorus, and when it pops it’s such a great and satisfying release. The chorus, verses, vocals and instrumental complement each other incredibly well. This track is so well composed, performed, and produced in my opinion, probably the most well crafted song this year outside of Aespa’s Welcome to my World, which I consider to be a production masterpiece in kpop. The video is also beautiful and well made, a visual treat to help elevate the song. I actually don’t have any real critiques to level this song’s way. I do think that this isn’t as strong as Underwater, but this song still catapults into the top 10 songs this year on first listen, and it’s growing on me each time it comes up.
Comet
This woman is seriously a chameleon on b-sides, this is both very familiar to a few of her 90s/2000’s teen pop anthem styled songs, but is also something completely its own at the same time. I think the chanted-ish chorus section is very odd, but I kind of like it in spite of my distaste for chanting in general.
Beautiful Night
Oh look, something else fairly new and different from Eunbi again. I don’t think the chanting section works as well here, but it’s brief so that’s not a huge mark. This song does again evoke 2000s teen anthems, but with a shift towards alt-rock/pop-punk kind of vibes. I really think some of her b-sides are a strong sign of her age, but in the best way, because I am just a little older and grew up hearing the same stuff, so it’s familiar but still fresh.
Overall Ranking: 9.0
Great energy, good b-sides, Eunbi continues to knock it out of the park. I have always stood by the fact that I will never like music even if I don’t like it just because I like the artist, and I still do. That’s why I’m so happy to be able to continue praising every release Eunbi makes, she’s just so consistently good.
