WJSN are apparently really looking to fill the year with content to make up for their slow 2020. Promotions have barely ended for their last comeback and they’re turning right around to hit us with this new sub-unit. This album is only two songs, so I’m going to keep the review fairly short today with a single rating at the end. Read up and then go give these women the views they deserve.
The Music Video
Starship doesn’t seem particularly interested in doing videos with any sort of story-telling these days, no that it’s ever been their strong suit. Instead what we do get is 3+ minutes of visuals, and that works well for a song that’s built to be sexy, the video and the music definitely match up well here. Cinematography is solid, edits are good, less chaotic cutting than the video for Unnatural, which is a huge relief. The styling is generally great, although the cowboy motif at the very end is totally weird and I don’t like it, although cowboy stuff is a general no for me at the end of the day, and I do think the blue suits could probably ditch the jackets, but the rest, fantastic and a huge win.
The Songs
Easy- I wish the bass line was boosted a bit more because it totally slaps. I didn’t think this song felt too crazy sexy until I realized that they repeat “I’ll make it look good for you” which really brings that category up quite a bit. Nothing stands out too particularly much, I do wish the song would pick up a little more energy in the chorus, but the whole experience is top notch.
Kiss Your Lips- I don’t usually listen to audio teasers because it distorts the perception of a song before listening to it in its entirety, but for this album I did listen to those teasers, I regret this decision. My initial impression from the teasers was that I wouldn’t like this song, but when taking it as a whole I think it’s actually really good, and got a reminder why teasers are deceptive. I think they went 2-for-2 in great beats on this mini, and the vocals, rapping, and song writing are fantastic.
Rating: 8.5/10
The reality is that while I like Easy and would take WJSN over any other kpop group in the history of my time listening to kpop, Easy isn’t my musical style that I go to over and over again for listening, but it certainly deserves a spot on my playlists. If this kind of music was more exactly to my taste I would have set it at a 9/10, but I also need to be objective and take into account what I might feel long term instead of just running on my very high excitement for this song today. That said, maybe with more time I will raise it up to my initial 9/10 that I had planned on, tune in later this year and find out with me.
